thoughts on a 44 mag as a first handgun purchase

+1 what MMA10mm said. Get yourself a 10 shot M-617, a pile of cheap 22 bulk ammo and blast away.

How much ammo do you guys keep around?

A year and a half ago during the shortage... zero. Now, across all calibers about 10,000 to 12,000 rounds.

Need a good Tacoma area Revolver-smith

Try Wade's gun Shop in Bellevue. I don't recall the guys name. He did prompt, quality work for me about 4 years ago.

    Model 617, now it's mine

My 4" 10-shot 617 has about 7000 rounds thru it without a hitch. It has the Wolff 11# rebound springs, and, the mainspring screw adjusted out about half a turn. Awesome gun. A real tack driver.

calling 617 owners for help with decision

Regarding the 6 round vs 10 round M617's, the 6 rounder feels more like it's larger caliber brothers. The 10 round cylinder doesn't have to rotate very far so it locks up a little sooner in the trigger stroke. I love my 4 inch 10 shot. But, I'd but a 4 inch 6 shot in a minute if I could find...

    Wanted, your advise on J-frames

I went to gunbroker and paid a premium for a 20 ounce 60-1 with target sights. My old eyes need real sights. Recoil is manageable. You wont want to do a whole bunch of practice with it.

    Ammo showing up on shelves.

We are Rving around the country. I've seen plenty of ammo in VT, PA, WI, MN, IA and MO. Prices are up. 9mm that used to sell for $9-10 a box is now $13-16. 38 Special $12-16 dollar a box ammo is now $17-21. 22lr is off the charts. $10 bricks of bulk pack crap are now going for $20 to $30...

Fun with a Wheelie --- (photo thread)

I found this shot on my computer. The picture is a year old. I had fun making the holes with a 10 round, 4 inch, M617. Anybody have something to add?

Optional Sights for 686 and 617

I tried the TruGlo and the paint came off the 3rd time I cleaned my gun. I got some bright orange nail polish that has been on my 686 for 2-1/2 years of heavy shooting.

    617 Trigger Question

The usual revolver trigger job entails lightly stoning or polishing the rebound slide and possibly the sear or trigger, replacing the rebound slide spring, and replacing the main spring. On a 22lr, usually it's best not to replace the main spring. Today, I took my 686 and my 617 to the range...
