I'd like a leather holster. It needs to be IDPA-legal.

Who makes good, quality leather holsters?

In addition, can y'all provide reasons to get one holster over another? Or what options, features are preferred and for what reasons?

Thanks in advance.

For leather, if they make a holster for your weapon, Galco first, Desantis second; although either one will do fine.

For IDPA I would get the Galco Combat Master Belt Holster - conceals well and very fast to draw. The Galco Avenger is a fantastic holster, I've seen Thunder Ranch faculty with this holster; but doesn't conceal as well.

Thanks for the reply!

A bit more info: I doubt I will ever conceal this gun, a S&W 686, 4". Looking for a game only holster.

Unless you have a scope on it a 4" 686 is not all that difficult to conceal. I conceal my 4" Python and 4" 686 on a regular basis (not at the same time). I use a Bianchi 8L. Check out Bianchi, Safariland, Galco, Desantis, Don Hume, Tex Shoemaker, El Paso Saddlery, Bob Mernickle. These are not all the ones out there but they will get you started. Also look into spare ammo carriers. BTW the holsters for my 686 fit my Python to a T, I have not had to buy a holster for the Python since I bought it 3 years ago.

Another strong recommendation for Lobo Gun Leather. Nicest holster I've got by a long shot, and he'll be my go-to for any future holsters as well.

Thanks for the nice comments. The OP is invited to my website where there is a page about selecting a holster style to fit your needs.

Lobo, I'm open to a recommendation for which holster to select for use in IDPA for a 4" S&W 686. I expect for the holster to be for games only, and maybe carrying while hiking or hunting. Likely would not use this gun for carry.

Thanks.
