Reacquired a Model 39 (no dash)

Sorry to take so long getting back to the thread! Thank you SO much for the ship date info! I really do appreciate it. The week before last I started looking for rear sight parts and eventually came upon a complete 39-2 slide from Numrich. I bought that slide for less than I could buy all the...

Reacquired a Model 39 (no dash)

Yeah, I figured that I'd have to ask S&W for an exact date, but I think around about '65 is a pretty close guess. Now I need to pull the odd sight off the slide and see if I can get the parts to re-install the factory sight... providing someone didn't mess with the dovetail. Thanks for looking...

Reacquired a Model 39 (no dash)

Haven't been here in a long time! Decades ago I traded off a nice Model 39 and regretted it ever since. Yesterday I reacquired one, likely from the mid-60s. It's had some handling over the years but there's not a lot of evidence of firing. It's all original with the exception of the rear sight...

    Which Scope?

Look at the Leupold Mark ARs also. Competitive prices, excellent quality and there is no better warranty.

    Model 66-1 with grooved trigger.

Interesting that there are those here who have a 66-2 that has a grooved trigger. I have a 66-2 that I bought brand new. Smooth trigger. Barrel is not pinned.

    Smith & Wesson vintage revolvers

Yes, it is quite a coincidence. They probably left the factory on the same day! :) I just acquired mine from a very close, 92 year old family friend that never fired it. He bought it new and it is still new-in-the-box. Although I've been taking care of it for the family, it just became truly...

    Years of manufacture?

    Thanks much!

    Smith & Wesson vintage revolvers

This is pretty amazing... I now have a Model 14-2 with a serial number pretty dang close... like as close as I've ever seen: K609760. When I saw yours, I was stunned for a second. R.

    Years of manufacture?

Thank you, John. I've ordered one of the books as of a few minutes ago. I should have one anyway. Thanks for taking the time to look them up for me - I appreciate it. Roger

    Years of manufacture?

Thanks. I'll likely contact the factory then. I'll also see if I can find a copy of that somewhere.

    Years of manufacture?

Hey, guys - I see that some of you have references for serial numbers that show the years of manufacture. Is this something that's readily available? I'd love to be able to look up data myself. I posted a picture in a different thread of the 3 S&Ws I just acquired. Would someone be kind enough...

3 S&Ws... old but new to me...

Thanks. Not gifts, but given to me to care for. I will actually pay her more than they're worth so that I can help out with the previous owner's care - they're struggling with the huge cost of 24X7 care. At least I saved these from going to some gun shop for minimum cash. A few months ago she...

3 S&Ws... old but new to me...

I originally posted this in a different forum, but then I figured the S&W guys might like to see these also... so if you read this elsewhere, please forgive... R. Ok, a family history story condensed into a one-liner. Very close family friend 92+ years old, not doing well in hospital. Wife...

    1 moa @ 100yards ammo question

That's just the load I happened to post. Heavier bullets can't give me any better accuracy than I'm getting now. I can't argue with 5 touching shots at 100 yards. Besides, a Wylde chamber or not, the dictating factor for bullet weight is going to be the twist ratio. I think we're getting off...

    1 moa @ 100yards ammo question

For those who might be interested... I took all the rounds I mentioned in my post above, to the range along with my chronograph. I got some interesting results: American Eagle M193: 3,159 FPS with a Std deviation of 21 FPS PMC X-Tac M855: 2,965 FPS with a Std deviation of 20 FPS Sellier &...
