442 is my carry gun. Finish is holding up great. Goes bang every time. Shoots where I point it. I reload for range ammo. 3.8 grains W231 & 158 grain SWC's that I cast from wheel weights. Carry ammo is +P 158 grn SJHP. Desantis IWB holster.
Good Luck finding a 442. My wife decided she wants one...
I tried the Hogue Bantam grips on my 442 so I could use speedloaders. At my first range session after installing them, I happened to look down at my hand & I was bleeding like a stuck hog from the web between my thumb & trigger finger. Switched back to the stock grips that came with the gun...
I own a Model 65-2 that is also marked. LCSD. At the time I bought it, the gun shop told me it was from a county sherrif's department up in S. Carolina. I guess alot of Law Enforcement agencies liked the Model 65. This has the smoothest trigger of all my Smiths.
I have a set of Uncle Mike's grips on my Model 36. The speedloader does work well with them. This gun usually rode in the car with me & wasn't so much for concealed carry.
The Model 442 was bought for concealed carry. I bought the Hogue grips so I could use the speedloader & they are more...
Those VZ grips look very nice. The Hogues were just more in my budget, plus I have some Hogue rubber grips on my K frames & just like the way they feel.
Took my new Mod 442-1 to the range today for the 1st time. I was very pleased. Shot about 200 of my reloads & 10 Rem +P's and 10 Mag Tech.
Everything shot to point of aim. Kick wasn't too bad except for the +p's. They shot fire & you definitely knew they were more powerful.
Shot from a Weaver...
Thanks again for all the input. I went ahead and bought the Mod 442 today. I just like it's looks better than the 642. I was able to find a no lock version. Plan on starting to break it in this weekend.
Thanks for all the responses. I'm not clear on 1 item yet. Is the 442 cylinder & barrel stainless or not. S & W website says the 442 cylinder is stainless.
Thanks again
What is the difference between current 642 & 442 moodels other than the color. Seems like I heard the finish on the 642 can be damaged by Hoppes #9. Does this apply to the black finish on the 442 as well?
Many Thanks
Dave
I use lee liquid alox on my bullets. When each finished cartridge comes out of the press it goes straight into an MTM cartridge box. Never gets a chance to get dirty. No leading in any of my S & W's. I kind of like the smoke.
