I carry my Shield .40 in a N8 squared Professional. Can carry all day and hardly even notice it. I love the positive retention yet drawing is smooth and easy. It is a little thick but I don't find that to be a serious negative. On the other hand during the summer here in the south it does...
I got an N82 tactical pro several months ago and love it! The company is from Lexington, NC so it makes me feel better about an American made product but the bottom line is that if you are looking for a comfortable, secure, well made holster this one fits the bill to a 'T'!
N82 Tactical
My "Nate Squared" tactical is awesome! It is extremely comfortable, tuckable, and very well made. Not sure how you could go wrong with this excellent holster! Plus this is a small American company - not made in China.
N82 Tactical!
I recently got the N82 Tactical Professional Series Holster and it is really excellent! Extremely comfortable, conceals well and excellent quality. The positive retention of the "polycarbonate" plastic is reassuring. When I saw it on their web site I was thinking it might be...
I installed the whole Apex trigger kit and am getting that 5-5.5 lb pull. MUCH better than the original - to me at least. I might try Robkarrob's option on the springs to lighten to pull a little mor but so far so good.
I bought and installed the Trijicon SA37 night sights and the Apex trigger and I couldn't be happier. The combo has helped me be much more accurate with the Shield. The trigger is much smoother and nice and crisp. Feels very similar to my Glock 23 gen4 in terms of pull weight and that is keeping...
I knew this question would never result in a cut and dried answer but WOW!! Lots of passion going on with some of these answers! After reading through everyone's comments - and especially the LEO's comments - I think I will keep my paranoia under control. The small mods that I have done have...
Thanks to everyone for the great feedback!
Obviously no sane person is looking to shoot anyone but a little "belt and suspenders" are a plus. I for one would rather run away and get help from the police if possible vs. shooting anyone but you just never know if that will be possible. I live in...
Mainly sights and a trigger job. Night sights help me a lot and even though Smith worked on the trigger on my Shield it is still awfully stiff to me so... I installed the Apex and it is MUCH better but now I'm getting cold feet about carrying it. Go figure

Just looking for opinions on who thinks it is a good - or bad - idea to modify a concealed carry gun and why. Possible legal issues? Should you pay to have an professional do the work? Etc.
I couldn't find an existing thread but if there is already one direct me.
Thanks.

There is definitely a different feel and sound when inserting a mag compared to before the "repair". It is possible that S&W also replaced my mag release lever but I'm not sure. Trust? Not so much.
They stated that they replaced my mags but I installed a Talon grip on my Shield...
Thanks, Bob!
Bob,
I just want to say your posts are always helpful and informative... I ran 400+ rounds through my Shield .40 with no mag drops and then the next 100 were drop after drop. Did I all of a sudden change my grip (or whatever)? Probably not. Sent it in and my mags came back...
Seems to be fixed
I put 100+ rounds through my returned Shield .40 today with no dropped mags or any other issues. Definitely good news to me. :) I did notice (just like before the repair) that once you have shot the first two mags they get very loose compared to when the gun is cold. Seems...
I got my Shield .40 (DXY****) back from S&W today. They:
"replaced pins" (mine was missing pivot pin on sear deactivation lever),
"replaced rear sight" (mine was consistently shooting left by two people shooting),
"adjust trigger pull" (I measured mine at 8.5 lbs+/-... Now measuring 7.5 lbs...
