    Age approx value 586

Bought at an Ohio gun show, $550, with matching original blue box and papers. Not NIB, but very clean. Locks up tight, smooth, very accurate at the range. Zero trigger creep. Serial AUB 75XX no dash. If I paid too much...it's OK, I ain't selling it. I just want an approximate value for...

    Need new carry gun

I own both the 638 J-frame and a 9mm SW Performance Center Shield. I find both are accurate, controllable, and easy to shoot and conceal. The Performance Center 9mm Shield has a much better trigger and a ported barrel for less "jump". The 638 is just a great gun....lightweight and easy to...

new to me 28-2 age? value?

as to the color of my 28-2's trigger and hammer...I was also a little mystified. Don't SW's usually have sort of a multi-color look on hammers and triggers from the bluing process? My new 28-2 doesn't and I don't know why. any guesses?

new to me 28-2 age? value?

It came with box only...no papers or tool. I did shoot it today (after I cleaned it). Smooth action (double action) and light & smooth on single.

new to me 28-2 age? value?

I will pull the stocks and see if they are numbered for the gun. The box has matching serial and model number so I am sure it's the original blue cardboard box. I found it from a private party closing an estate. One of the local FFL's offered them $250. I wasn't sure what they go for...always...

new to me 28-2 age? value?

I just picked up a model 28-2 with original box from a private party. Serial #S2640XX. I'm guessing it's from the 70's so that's why I picked this forum. Any idea as to manufacture date and approximate value? The value is not for resale, but for replacement insurance purposes. I paid...

    model 638

Thanks...and yeah they may be powder puff rounds but i'm not as young as I used to be with some arthritis in my hands. Really big recoil is painful. My hope is that better shot placement will help if TSHTF.

    model 638

Picked up an S&W 638 J-frame for carry purposes and I really like it. Light, shoots well, and is small. I was at the range practicing last week and was told (by an instructor) that the ammo I was using would damage the weapon. I was shooting Hornady 90 grain extp "lite", 38 special. The gun is...

Thanks guys....what I had on hand was CCI Standard Velocity, and yes it functioned well. I also have some CCI mini-mag, would that hurt a '41'??

    Date on Model 41

I was on this forum as I just found a 7" model 41 at a local pawn shop and I always wanted one. No box or papers, and one mag. It seems clean with just one spot on the finish. it was really dirty, but after cleaning, it shoots great. Any idea as to date of manufacture? Serial A6338XX...
