Hello Again,
I have been range shooting with my 340PD and my Sig P238 using Cirillo's weapons silhoutte point method lately and have been happy with the results.
I shoot at a silhoutte target out to 7 yards. In the 340PD I am using Magtech 38SPL 148 gr lead wadcutters at around 700 fps/166 ft...
Hello All,
Thank you so much for all the super ideas. Sometimes one has to brainstorm with others to look at several options.
I have a CCW and routinely carry my 340PD in my belly band holster if I go on the walk with my wife and the dogs. My wife does not have a CCW so that is not an option...
Hello,
I forgot that dogs do not have tear ducts - no wonder MACE won't work very good.
I like the ammonia solution.
Was not aware of the horn-loud sound solution.
Let me run these past the wife and see what she is comfortable with.
Thank you. Finally, some things to investigate.
Richard...
Hello All,
My wife was out yesterday afternoon taking our two basset hounds on their regular walk, when a larger dog bolted out the front door towards them.
The attacking dog managed to bite (one fang puncture) one of our dog's back in the ensuing melee. My wife pulled out her 3-in-1 Police...
Hello Jim,
I agree that this type of shooting is live or die close quarters stuff out to about 20 feet. Thanks for the book recommendation - yes, I have read it.
If I want to hit bullseyes out to 50 feet or so, I'll use my Sig Mosquito or Ruger Single Ten revolver, both in economical .22LR...
Hello Scooter,
I like your perspective on weapon guided point shooting. I am 59 and to see the front sight clearly, I have to tilt my head up for the no-line bifocal lower portion to work. I tried a prescription with no bifocals (distance only), but could not focus on the front sight at all...
Hello Zebulon and Nashville Mike,
Mike, like you said, methods like this take lots of training on ranges that most of us do not have access to on a regular basis. Sad, but still true. There is only a very limited amount of shooting postures you can assume in a cramped indoor shooting booth or...
Hello All,
Just finished reading the late Jim Cirillo's book, "Guns, Bullets and Gunfights: Lessons and Tales from a Modern Day Gunfighter".
In Chapter 7, he talks about his weapon silhoutte method of pointing a handgun versus active sighting. He advocated subliminal sighting instead of...
Hello All,
Here is an update on my 340PD "testing".
I sent off the 340PD to S&W for a trigger enhancement where they lighten up the trigger pull and smooth it out. It cost $102.00 ($88 for the work and $14 for return FEDEX shipping) and took 5 weeks from the time I sent it off till I received...
Hello Photoman,
Thanks for heads-up on this course. Need to investigate this. Also looking into a two-day course by Robin Brown.
Yes, that is an O-2. Good eyes! This was during my forward air controller days with the 22nd Tactical Air Support Squadron at Wheeler AFB, Hawaii back in 1976-77...
Hello Wheelyfun66,
You are most fortunate to be able to shoot at an outdoor range that allows movement rather than a table/stall.
Unfortunately, the outdoor ranges I have access to here near Plano, Texas, don't allow movement.
I guess felt recoil is different during movement versus static...
Hello All,
Sent off my 340PD to S&W last week for a trigger enhancement - smoothing and pull lessening. S&W says turnaround time is about 6-8 weeks.
I also put a Pachmayr Gripper Declerator grip (#145531) on it. Still concealable in my Lobo pancake holster and my Renegade ankle holster, but...
Stu,
I like your summary:
"Point shooting works in fights period. It worked for the likes of Mr. Bryce, Col. Askins, Jordon, and hundreds of real gunfighters. It's insanely fast. It's more than accurate enough, and it will keep you alive. Your bullet will go where your eyes look. It requires...
Hello All,
Just watched that DVD on point shooting:
“SHOOT HIM TO THE GROUND Tactical Point Shooting For The 21st Century” by Matthew Temkin
Learned quite a few things in the 1 hour 15 minute presentation, including the difference in using semi-autos and revolvers in close-up combat shooting...
Hello Jim!
So when are we going over to Bullet Trap so you can practice some point shooting with that Sig P238? We need to look at the S&W revolvers they have and get you one. You can always try my 340PD snub nose anytime.
Oh yes, welcome to the forum!
Richard down the Street from You in...
