Welcome to our club. You did not notice these scratches the first time you cleaned it ? Looks like its just surface scratches . I have the 40 love it and have putt over 3000 rounds Thru it with no damage.

My dad just showed me his new Smith Shot gun 12g pump the man who sold it to him said it was made for the military it has a short barrel and holds 8 shells it is a good looking gun I had no ideal Smith made shot guns any one know anything about it

lots of ammo I always start out of the box there is a tool you will need for elevetion the windage is a screw on back sight I use sand bags as a study base start plinking your way to center of target sighted mine at 100 hits every time
Thank you for this post My dad has one just like yours ive been looking for info on but had trouble putting a pic on post his is also in perfect condition finish and fires great S/n 933xx saids 1880 on top of barrel
has a hammer its double action you just pull the trigger and it fires still working on the pics he lives in another state I took pics on my c phone sent them to FB cant get them to hear
My dad has an old break over S&W ser#933xx its in Nickel on top it said made in 1880 I believe lots of small print
gun is nice still shoots everything original one grip cracked
