I'm thinking Hard Chrome finish. Who ever did it I'd tip my hat to them. I have never seen any evidence that Smith ever made a stainless model 41. I paid a "shooter" price for it and just want to make sure I didn't miss the memo on stainless 41's.
I've been collecting models 41 & 46 for a long time. I've never seen a 41 with this finish or is it stainless ? The Sn is TAFxxxx and it doesn't appear to be refinished (to me). This is the 5.5 heavy barrel gun and I did not get a box with it. I thought about Hard Chrome and I certainly don't...
I guess I didn' get the memo on the 586 no dash. Please tell me where this gun is as a collector item. I own a very nice one in the box; a 4" with no M and just want to get on the same page with everyone else. Thanks
I purchased a 29-2 4" n302xxx that the previous owner said was factory Magna Ported. I was curious if this was a factory option in the 75-76 year range. I plan to letter it when I get a chance.
I picked up a model 13-2 sn 9D05xxx and noticed the cylinder was recessed but the barrel not pinned. It is a 4" barrel, was this normal for this time period? Thanks in Advance for any info.
I knew that I was buying a shooter when I purchased it. I guess I'm just trying to second guess myself and ask if it has any value aside from being a shooter?
I traded for a very nice pre-29 5 screw, sn s152xxx, for some reason this gun has been changed to 8 3/8, it has the correct "coke " grips. I'm having a hard time deciding what to do with it. I don't consider it a collector because of the incorrect barrel, but I really don't want to shot it. I...
I picked up a pre 36 sn 45xxx at a gun show today and would like to get the correct box for it. Would it be the red box ? Thanks in advance for the help.
I'd say anything south of $850 is a good deal. If it had the box it goes to about $1000. That's based on a 98% or better gun. I've seen some guys asking as high as $1200 without the box. The key word there is asking not selling. Hope that helps, I've bought 3 in the last couple of months and...
Thanks, I have Bill's book and it's excellent info on amu guns. I have a couple of 1911's built as described in the book with 38 super slides, 38 amu barrels, chambered in 38spl. I think they came from Colt as kits shipped to the amu unit and some gunsmiths inculding Clark. Does anyone know if...
I've been collecting models 41 and 46 for years and just recently added the last of the catologed models. I'd appreciate any information on other variations or other items i might add to my collection. I'd really like to know how to identify the one's that were used by the amu guys.
