Yes the shield is just for the adjustable sights. Looks the same on the 4506 I recently picked up.

I purchased mine used a couple of months ago. It has scratches in a couple of places. If I had bought it new I would have been upset but mine has other issues such as fail to chamber and had to replace the factory recoil spring with a Wolff 18 lb to solve the issue. Still have an issue with it...

Took it home last night. The gun check out line was almost 2 hours. I will need to call CS and see what they say for a mfg. date. Serial number is VCZ45 if someone has an estimate of the date.
