This gun is designed for the 22LR. Why would you use a .22 short? Maybe a hot .177 would work too. Have you tried that?

You have probably already fallen for this gun. It is like driving a sports car. Try different brands of ammo to see what works best for you. Some of the stuff that is not highly thought of on this site works well for me, and some of the high end ammo does not cycle well. Just depends on the gun.

Majorlk, being new to the world of .22 rimfires I have another question. How would a novice know which manufacturers plate or jacket the bullet? Is it indicated on the box? I used to think that the .22 was a pretty simple round, but this forum has opened up some new thoughts about that.

So the Thunderbolt round uses a lead bullet. I'm guessing this isn't good for the barrel. What are the other more popular rounds made of, and is that a better option for the barrel?

Why does S&W not recommend the Rem Thunderbolt ammo? Is there a good alternative bulk round???

I agree.......the more it gets broken in the better it is going to perform. It seemed the more rounds I put thru it the better it performed.

I like the way it looks with the gap. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a defect with the grip, but it is seated properly so I figured it was designed, or lack or a design, that way. Thanks for the info.

Congratulations, you will really enjoy this rifle. Got mine two weeks ago and put about 500 rounds thru it. I would recommend keeping track of the ammo you put thru it and see which works best in your particular weapon. Mine had a few failure to fires, but the more rounds that went thru it...

Aceman, from the side it looks OK, but when looking at it from the back the grip has a pretty good size gap. I haven't noticed that on the full size AR's, so wasn't sure if this was a defect. Thanks for the input. seb5thman

Can somebody tell me if the pistol grip back strap is supposed to be flush with the lower reciever??? It is the curved portion on the upper end of the pistol grip. I have the Mag-Pul MOE version and can't tell from other pic's if the back strap has a small gap between it and the reciever...

DVW0.... purchased 11-10-11. Put 200 CCI rounds thru it with one failure to fire with each magazine (8 total). Then put 300 Remington Thunderbolt rounds thru it with only one failure to fire out of the 300. Don't know if that is common with a new gun. Still trying to figure things out, but...
