686+ 4" NO RIFLING!! Please help

Had the same problem a year or so back with the same gun, 686 with 4" barrel. Mine had a faint hint of rifling in the bore. 115 grn and 125 grn bullets were all over the place. 158 grn shot 11 inches to the left with the rear sight as far right as i could get it. After shooting everything i...

    Model 17-2 Front sight change

I have an older model 17-2. Wanting to put a fiber optic on it. It looks to be pinned to the barrel but is much different than any of my 586 or 686 revolvers. Has anyone changed one of these out?

    686+ disappointment (update)

I sent a 686 back a couple of weeks ago because it shot about 12 inches to the left. You could hardly see any rifling looking down the barrel. Got it back yesterday with a new barrel that has rifling plus a new cylinder. They even put my fiber optic sight on the new barrel for me. Haven't shot...

    Rifling in new snubbies

I just sent my 4" 686 back to smith and wesson with the same trouble. Mine would shoot about 12" to the left with 158 grn. at 25 yards. Could hardly see any rifling in the barrel. Shoots like a smooth bore. Hope it comes back with a barrel that has some rifling in it.

    Flutes off center

I just looked at four of my 357 mag. 2 seven and 2 six shot. All the flutes are between charge holes. None directly over charge holes.

    686 land and grooves

I recently bought another 686 with 4" bbl. Gun always shot far left. Shooting from a rest at 25 yrds 3" groups is best it will do with my reloads. 125 grn RNFP cast 50/50 lead+ww. 4.2 grn BE. Shot over ten thousand of the same loads through my other 686 and 586 with much tighter groups. Now to...

    Problems with cast bullet leading

I had the same problems that you are having. No matter what i did i still had leading in my 586 and 686. The last thing i tried should have been my first. Bought a lyman lube sizer and good hard lube and like magic, no more leading. Not even a little bit.

    alliant american select powder

Just wondering if any of you have used or know anything about american select powder. I have been wanting to try it for light load 357 mag. The only place that i have found it is gun broker in 10lb or 8lb. The price doesn't seem too bad but i noticed that none of it ever sells. Is there a reason...

Reviews on lyman mag 25 lead furnace

Have any of you bullet casters used the lyman mag 25 lead furnace. I'm thinking about upgrading from my 10 lb. lee pot to one of these but can't seem to find any reviews on this thing. Some don't even carry it any more. Makes me wonder why. Hate to buy one if it has problems. Any info would be...
