He died in 2001 so it is too late to ask him. I found the sight in a little manilla envelope (1x2 inch) with the legend "gun sight, DO NOT THROW AWAY!"
This is the third S&W to come out of my father's collection. I think this is a pre-27; it has the fancy checkering along the top. Serial # S 1393XX.
The other two I have (well, the guys on this forum have identified) as a 1902 .38 special CTG
and a 1960 .357 mod 27
So this is the...
Good idea, I'll check again. I really would like to shoot that gun.
Oh - just for fun, also found this 1908 .25 Colt ACP Auto (vest pistol) wrapped up in a checkered cloth. That I have fired and it's a hoot! Shoots nice for a 100 year old gun.
And this is a video of the Colt in action...
Thanks. I have also unearthed a S&W Pre - 27 that'll I will take some shots of and post when I get the chance. I thought it was a Highway Patrolman but it's got the fancy touches, the top strap is checkered.
I don't know why my dad felt he had to remove the sights from all his pistols, maybe it was a safety thing, but it was a great relief to find out where he stashed them all!
Thanks, now all I have to do is find bullets that fit it. Already discovered that .38 special rounds won't do. There were about 20 boxes of .38's in the safe (dated late 1950's) and none of them were of any use, although they did fit the 1956 pre-27 Not A HighwayPatrolman .357 I found in the...
It's a 1902 but my grandfather modified the butt, follow the link to the thread.
Here's the pic of the butt with the grips removed, you can see where the steel was added:
As for the rear sight of the .357 I have no clue.
Another treasure from my dad's closet. I think this revolver was a wedding present given to my Dad by my Mom. S/N 187091. It will be fun to display beside the S&W 1902 .38 Special I dug up last month.
The 1902 CTG:
I guess we're a Smith & Wesson family, got two more to dig out.
