1960 (?) S&W .357 Magnum Mod 27

Another treasure from my dad's closet. I think this revolver was a wedding present given to my Dad by my Mom. S/N 187091. It will be fun to display beside the S&W 1902 .38 Special I dug up last month.

The 1902 CTG:

Well, the family story is she saw dad pining over it at the Kittery Trading Post and decided to buy it as a surprise.

Very handsome 27. I have my Grandfathers from about the same era .

Nice .357. S187000 should have shipped in 1958, but they were relatively slow sellers (compared to K and J frames of the same time), and it may have sat in inventory for an extra year or two.

And your "1902" gun is a 1905. What they call a 1902 now is the round butt version. Yours seems in nice condition, though.

I hope you find the sight for that .357 or can replace it. It's a beautiful gun from an era when craftsmanship and modern materials joined to produce superb handguns.

It's a 1902 but my grandfather modified the butt, follow the link to the thread.

As for the rear sight of the .357 I have no clue.

I found the rear sight! It was in a little manilla envelope titled: ".357 Do Not Throw Away!"

Major relief!

I don't know why my dad felt he had to remove the sights from all his pistols, maybe it was a safety thing, but it was a great relief to find out where he stashed them all!

Thanks. I have also unearthed a S&W Pre - 27 that'll I will take some shots of and post when I get the chance. I thought it was a Highway Patrolman but it's got the fancy touches, the top strap is checkered.

Interesting that he would remove the rear sights from all his pistols. Perhaps a follower of the point shooting methods of Fairbairn, Applegate and Sykes?
