Here is what I use...Have no problems at all, but i do use the 10 rnd. mags.. If you use the 25 rnd, you may want something a tad taller

Yes..I took some very thin alum. that I had sitting around. Threw it up in a vice to bend it and cut it with a dremel. Painted it black. Used 3m double side tape to stick it on.
Works flawless and ejects them straight to the ground

Not a problem...I figured the same as you..I liked having the "option" of the bipod also..Yes the SKS does weigh more, but i even swapped it to the 15-22 just to see..It has alot of play from side to side..Kinda like a see-saw..you move a tad, it moves also..

I wouldn't waste my time with the Tapco bipod option IMO. I have the same setup on my converted SKS and it just has way too much movement in it for bench shooting.. I am taking mine off and going to purchase a UTG bipod for it(a taller one than what my 15-22 has on it)
