New mainspring in 10-6, now weird problem

It was a Brownell's branded mainspring, it was about $6. The other spring that was available was a Wolf spring for $15. I noticed if I backed the strain screw about halfway out the trigger worked fine, but that didn't seem right so I went back to the original mainspring. I bent it a bit back...

New mainspring in 10-6, now weird problem

I was getting light strikes on my heavy barrel 10-6 so I ordered a new mainspring from brownells. Sideplate popped off easily enough, changed out the old mainspring with the new one, re-installed the sideplate and tightened up the strain screw. Weird problem I have now is sometimes the trigger...

Has the model 29 lost it's mojo?

I've heard you should keep the heavy hitters to a minimum with the earlier 629's, but I find the Ruger more comfortable to shoot anyhow. Here's my Ruger, square and blocky like a Jeep: And my 629-1, which doesn't look as beefy but it's as sexy as a Porsche: I usually stick with light loads...

Want XTP loads for short barreled .44 mag.

I have a box of 200gr XTP bullets I'm anxious to try out as well. But in the meantime I've been shooting 240gr LSWCs over 7.0-7.5gr Unique out of a 2.5" 629-1, ported with wood grips (because they look nice :D). Very accurate at 7-10yds and easy to shoot.

new to me S&W 629 Talo 44 magnum

Picked that one up from Tanner's? There was that exact model there a couple weeks ago, it was very nice!!

    Unique "smokeless powder" yeah right

It's a magnaport. Whoever did the work on the gun went all out on it (chopped barrel, grips cut to K-frame size, action job) but personally I would've skipped the magnaporting, I don't think it serves much purpose on such short barrels, it stills kicks as hard as my other snubbie, a Ruger SRH...

    Unique "smokeless powder" yeah right

I've been working on some up close and personal defense loads for my 44 mag snubbie. Shot 100 rounds with loads of 7.0-7.5 gr Unique today. 13.5gr of Blue Dot was brutal to shoot out of this gun. But I could've easily shot 100 more rounds of this load of Unique! Great accuracy at 7-10...

    Tight tolerances on revolver q's

Thanks for all the advice, I'll work on my technique when dumping out the cases and I do have a bottle of Unique I haven't touched in awhile so I'll give that a go and save the Blue Dot for my 44 mag :D

    Tight tolerances on revolver q's

Hello all, took my 10-6 out to the range today and shot about 80 rounds of handloads through it. Great accuracy overall, only problem is it would bind up every 20 or so rounds. A quick wipe down resolved things immediately until the next 20 shots fired. It doesn't seem to take much powder...

    Need info on a 15-3!

I just came from the range today shooting a CA Police Undercover snubbie and was wishing my S&W snubs in .38 spcl were 6 shot as well. Well someone was listening because I came across this S&W 15-3 snubbie for $300 in my local shop and had to get it :D The barrel and cylinder have taken a...

Need a recoil comparison: 29/629 vs Ruger Alaskan

I've owned a 29-3 3", a 629-1 2.5" and a Ruger SRH Alaskan. Both the S&W's had wood grips and were really not all that pleasant to shoot. The Ruger on the hand, while not the looker like the other 2 is just plain fun to shoot with the beefy stock rubber grips that has the gel pad insert. I...

    S&W .44 Vs. Ruger Alaskan

I'm not sure how the .454 compares but I've had someone in the next lane over at my indoor range shooting off a S&W .500 and it really was intense  Even with ear plugs under my ear muffs I could feel the concussion blast from each shot! My .44 mag was a pea shooter by comparison :D and I...

    ANOTHER COMBAT GRIP QUESTION

629-1 Just added these grips. Not the most perfect fit (grip was converted to K-frame) but looks a lot better than the rubber pachs :D

    My Pre-model 10 with pics! Have Q's

Thanks everyone, I appreciate all the great info! I really had no idea there could be that much attention to detail involved when determining an original or refinish
