Everyone likes to show off their safe queens or the nice stuff in their collection, I was bored this evening so I dragged out some of my uglies.......

This was a thrashed re-import 10-10, I replaced the cylinder with a 50's era one, put in a combat hammer and .275 trigger I've had laying around for years, some wierd extra heavy mainspring that came in some other S&W I bought used, and I also took the DA hammer dog off, making it Single Action Only since the DA pull was so abysmal.Found a "made in Japan" plastic trigger shoe that looks like it came in a Cracker Jack box...... Topped it off with some ugly as sin Zebrawood target grips from the 80's. I have so many .38's I figured I would mess with this one, I use it as a backyard plinker.

A 10-5 I bought that had been butchered internally, I think I paid $250 for it 4 years ago.It had haze rust all over it, and the cylinder has pitting on the outside. It took me an hour to scrub it clean with copper wool, and there's still some rust I couldn't get off. Looks like it was stored in a cheap vinyl case. I added a DAO hammer and new springs. The grips are early plastic probably from the 60's. I use this as a carry piece from time to time, it's slick and accurate, just ugly.

This one was DOA when I got it.......dead on arrival! So much endshake it would hardly touch a round off. After some bearings added,a new ejector rod (the old one was bent) and a new ejector rod latch, it's tight enough to be safe....... added a Buehler mount with a 2x Leupold optic, it's a good 25 yard Bullseye gun with 158 gr. .38's. I think the days of .357 are over for this one.

A Victory I rebarreled in my garage. It's still got issues, but at least now it goes bang!

It's a M544 Texas Wagon Train commemorative that looks like it was drug down a tar-n-gravel road fer a mile or two.

Got a Colt Police Positive Special .32-20 also. Despite the exterior, the chambers and bore are perfect.

nice old beaters,I have a 1962 model 10 beater but it sure can shoot.I shot it in a idpa match once.

Those are some nice ugly guns:)

I owned this thing for maybe a few months........it's an antique Belgian copy of a Gasser revolver. I thought I might get a disease from touching it so I sold it for almost nothing.

That 28-2 is a safe queen compared to some of the stuff I didn't take pics of!:)

If I can buy 'em cheap , and they work, or I can fix them, I'll keep adding more ugly guns to my "pile".;)

Ugly Ruger, but it works great and will no doubt last longer than me......

why not test out your refinishing skills :) little steal wool and some cold blue

I don't have many. These two are about the closest, and they're not bad really.

Ugly

Here's my ugliest one. Colt Army Special 32-20. Still works good though.

This is one I have no explanation for why I bought. She came to me cheap so at least it isn't a money pit. I knew Taurus bought a S&W plant back in the day and churned out all kinds of Model 10 clones, but this one just called to me from the case. It has milling that reminds me of a Model 27 on the top of the frame but then they also added some milling to the cylinder. The trigger is pretty heavy, but I like the excess hook in the trigger. So she's kind of ugly, kind of unique, and still kind of fun. At least Taurus got smart and updated the old cow head marking...

Ugly is as Ugly has done...

This Old Hoss was the sidearm of a West Texas Lawman.... he was a rough as the gun.... when he sold it to me nearly 30 years ago he said... "Careful of that gun... it's got blood on it...." I don't think he meant just the finish....

Today it lives a far more pastoral existence as my oldest son's 'woodsgun'...

Some real neat guns here, a lot of time the "rough" ones have better stories:)

I like those short Target grips, I think they were made so people could use them on guns with lanyard rings.

I have one of those early Taurus .38's, I don't think I paid over $200 for it. It was probably a guard gun, it had been dropped squarely on the sights and I had to bang the front sight straight with a brass hammer and bend the rear sight blade straight again. It locked up after 12 rounds, so I had to file on the forcing cone. I don't use it for much, the lockup on one chamber is pretty loose but it goes bang and hasn't spit or blown up yet:) I also got it more just to have one, since it was made when Bangor Punta owned both S&W and Taurus. If I saw a fixed sight version I would probably buy it. These are probaby the most "S&W-like" Taurus ever got. One thing I can say about it is it's pretty accurate and the carry-up is perfect, the Taurus' seem to be made to lock up earlier than S&W's. I like how they "copied" the top screw on the sideplate and the pinned barrel. When I ask Taurus fans about the older ones, I get mixed reviews........some say the early ones are the best, some say they are to be avoided.

This is a tough thread for me because I usually only buy S&W revolvers that are 97% or better.

Here's my lone revolver that had bluing loss on the frame, cylinder, and barrel

This was it orginally

This is it after some cold blue and new grips
