Everyone likes to show off their safe queens or the nice stuff in their collection, I was bored this evening so I dragged out some of my uglies.......
This was a thrashed re-import 10-10, I replaced the cylinder with a 50's era one, put in a combat hammer and .275 trigger I've had laying around for years, some wierd extra heavy mainspring that came in some other S&W I bought used, and I also took the DA hammer dog off, making it Single Action Only since the DA pull was so abysmal.Found a "made in Japan" plastic trigger shoe that looks like it came in a Cracker Jack box...... Topped it off with some ugly as sin Zebrawood target grips from the 80's. I have so many .38's I figured I would mess with this one, I use it as a backyard plinker.
A 10-5 I bought that had been butchered internally, I think I paid $250 for it 4 years ago.It had haze rust all over it, and the cylinder has pitting on the outside. It took me an hour to scrub it clean with copper wool, and there's still some rust I couldn't get off. Looks like it was stored in a cheap vinyl case. I added a DAO hammer and new springs. The grips are early plastic probably from the 60's. I use this as a carry piece from time to time, it's slick and accurate, just ugly.
This one was DOA when I got it.......dead on arrival! So much endshake it would hardly touch a round off. After some bearings added,a new ejector rod (the old one was bent) and a new ejector rod latch, it's tight enough to be safe....... added a Buehler mount with a 2x Leupold optic, it's a good 25 yard Bullseye gun with 158 gr. .38's. I think the days of .357 are over for this one.
A Victory I rebarreled in my garage. It's still got issues, but at least now it goes bang!
