I was getting light strikes on my heavy barrel 10-6 so I ordered a new mainspring from brownells. Sideplate popped off easily enough, changed out the old mainspring with the new one, re-installed the sideplate and tightened up the strain screw. Weird problem I have now is sometimes the trigger gets stuck during the start of the pull, I can see the hammer move back just a little. What's even more weird I noticed is the trigger gets stuck mostly when using my right hand, but when I switch to my left hand, it usually works fine  Did I knock something out of alignment with my tapping to get the sideplate off? Thanks for any info.

The spring fits very close to the frame, so if you don't have it precisely centered it can be rubbing on the inside of the grip. Is th new spring a original S&W replacement or an aftermarket? I personally don't ever use anything but original equipment mainsprings.

Might be one or more of several parts that weren't perfectly aligned when you put the plate back on. A likely culprit is the hammer block.

Take the plate off, press everything firmly into place, ensure the proper positioning of the hammer block, reseat the plate and check.

If there's still a problem, tear it down and put it back together, piece by piece.

It's UP, then replace the side plate.

It was a Brownell's branded mainspring, it was about $6. The other spring that was available was a Wolf spring for $15. I noticed if I backed the strain screw about halfway out the trigger worked fine, but that didn't seem right so I went back to the original mainspring. I bent it a bit back into shape, reinstalled it and tightened the strain screw all the way in. The trigger occasionally locks hard into place just as I'm pulling it and usually in my right hand, but works fine even in rapid fire with my left hand. I tried it with the hammer block left out but same result so I don't think that was the cause. So odd.

Good guess is that the hammer or the trigger is no longer in the center of it's opening. It has probably shifted to the right from what you say. Would suggest you first remove the side plate and clean the pins and holes that they sit in, Dirt pushes them over as well as anything else. If that is not the problem you are probably going to have to get a shim set for that action and shim the trigger and hammer so that they are back in the middle again. You might also want to take a close look at eh pivot holes in the trigger and hammer. They are probable a bit looser than they should be. That is why it works with the left hand but not with the right. I know it's pickey stuff but that's what makes them go. Good luck
