Melonite on a revolver?

You fail to mention if you want to refinish a stainless steel, carbon steel or alloy revolver. These all require different finishes.

If your goal is to get a black stainless steel firearm, I would go with one of the PVD/DLC finishes like Ion-Bond, Diamonex, Boydcote or others. S&W has been using Ion-Bond on the stainless cylinders installed on the M&P and night guard revolvers.

I have been wearing a DLC coated watch for about a year now and it barely shows any wear. Also the PVD/DLC coatings come in colors other than black.

Thanks for the info. Actually, I did specifically ask if anyone had used Melonite on a Smith stainless revolver.

I'm familiar with Ion-bond and would consider that too, but I don't know Diamonex and Boydcote. I will research both.
