Hows The Mexican Restuarants Where you Live?

We haven't been able to keep a Mexican restaurant in town. The ICE closed down the last two...guess that means they were authentic at least. I'm about 100 miles north this week, taking care of grandkids and there are a couple of decent Mexican places here. Just had lunch at one today as a matter of fact...nice big burrito and a couple of Tecates.

We had an Uncle Julio's Rio Grande in Richmond, VA, but they closed a couple of years ago. They are a chain but I sort of liked their southwest and parrilla style, a little different from the run of the mill texmex. Casa Grande on the southside makes the best carnitas in town for my taste. Something about their spices and grilled onions has me going back there about every other week.

La Palmera is fairly authentic style and has excellent food, and they are beside Southern Gun, so how can that miss? One of the best authentic places is La Milpa. For the most part their staff doesn't know any English and their menu is in Spanish so you need to know what you are ordering -- you don't get to press 1. About as authentic as you can get here and the food is really gooood. And cheap. Maybe goat on occasion, but no tacos del gato, of course. At least I'm pretty sure. Maybe Jim Shugart can verify.

We moved from Dallas where there were lots of really good Mezzikan places to Tampa... where there are no good ones at all, and only one mediocre one.... :(

The Jalapeanos here are about as hot as a dill pickle slice....

Sure do miss Dallas....

Chuck

Well, I can't make any guarantees
But if you head about 50 miles south of you to Palmetto
there are at least two Mexican Restaurants I enjoy

Alvarez Family Restaurant & El Molcajetes

Heck in Palmetto most of the storefronts along the main drag are in Spanish

There was an Uncle Julio's Rio Grande in the Ballston area of Arlington, VA when I lived up there. I was surprised because it was pretty good - and they had Shiner beer. I asked them about their pedigree - they were part of a chain out of Dallas, but the Dallas restaurants go by another name.

Raul and Theresas in Goodyear is about as good as it gets. Don't try to get in the parking lot when PIR is running a NASCAR race, it's full of drivers and pit crews.
Gloria has a roach coach that is about the best I have ever had. Had a Mexican neighbor a number of years ago that taught my wife how to make Mexican food. Except for not using goat, it's the real thing

I love Mexican food but if I thought me not eating it would rid Az. of just one freakin' illegal, I'd stop today

Got a guy here is East Tennessee that owns several in a couple of cities. Probably his best is the first one he opened, El Matador. Servers are all Mexican, cooks all Mexican, great pico de gallo.

We were in Dallas a couple of years ago, and I figured we should be able to find a pretty good Mexican restaurant...not. Maybe I should have checked here first, but we were extremely disappointed in the Taco Bell style food they had there. Incidentally, they look at you real funny when you order sweet tea in Dallas, which surprised me. I always thought Texas was in the South.

Hmm. Hereabouts folks (properly) differentiate between Mexican and New Mexican. We have good places for both types. Depends on what you're looking for: I don't know of any one place that does everything outstandingly. Anyone have any specific ABQ/Santa Fe chow Qs, please contact me! :)

Erich, what's the name of that Mexican restaurant in Old Town at the SE corner of the plaza - that serves lemon sorbet to beat down the fire after eating? We used to enjoy that place when we lived in Albuquerque. Is it still in operation?

Years ago my wife and i went into a Mexican restaurant near the Oakland Coliseum. Chinese people ran it. I said to my wife, " This seems so weird the food has to be good!."
It was really bad. I mean no offence to Asian cooks in general, which would be nuts because there's tons of great Chinese places around here.

LOL, I ate at a Chinese restaurant ran by Mexicans........it was really bad, too...........didn't last long.
