Boar and Ram hunting in Oklahoma! Graphic pictures added! Mount Pictures added!

Skip, sounds like you and the wife had the time of your lives! I'm glad everything worked out well for you both. I agree though, it would have been nice if you were able to test the .357 Magnum on that hunt. As you know it's of particular interest to me... LOL

Great pictures of what looks like a great hunt. Good for you both!!

Yes, the .357 has a special place with me too, so I'm looking for an opportunity to shoot a hog with one of mine! :)

skip...so glad you and the wife had a great time....i just got back from the taxidermist a big beautiful red boar head and a four horn ram that scored a bronze medal...i'm pretty excited...i'll be back after boar and ram again in either march or april in western NC...again..congrats!

As outlined above, it was shot just under 50 yards and in the right eye. The exit hole, and I was surprised there was one when shooting it in the skull, is impressive.

The XTP in the 44Mag at 1800+fps seemed to do the trick. I wish I would have been able to harvest one with the 357Mag on this trip, maybe next time.

If you keep shooting like that, a K-38 will do nicely. Nice shooting! :)

I just wanted to add some pictures of our ram mounts. The first one is the wife's the second mine.

Great reminders of a wonderful time!

Excellent!
I have one just about like the first one hanging on my wall.
Always brings back lots of memories when I look at my mounts.:)
I recall where I was, what the weather was like, what gun I had, etc. Too bad so many don't get why we hunt, or why we have them mounted......

Many years ago I read an article by Bob Hagel. In it, he mentioned thathe always kept the shell casing from any load that he took an animal with, and if he recovered the bullet, he kept it with the case. Just for the memories.

Ever since then, I have been doing the same thing. I have a drawer full of zip-loc bags that have empty casings (and sometimes a bullet or two) along with a note that tells all the details of the shot. Range, weather, angle, distance, etc., and the gun and caliber used, along with the load/s used and the impact and exit points, the way the bullet behaved, how it expanded and penetrated, etc.

They are just as much a trophy to me as the animals they have taken for me.:)
