CCW badges

Years ago, I worked with a County Sheriff's wife and we all were good friends (small retail store-all knew each others families, etc). I had a "courtesy card" from him. Thought I was hot s--- until I interpreted his handwriting on the back. It said:

"Do me a favor and shoot this guy!"

Some don't stop with a badge.

Thanks to steamloco and the folks at the PA forum for this enlightening video. I'm not sure which was more informative ... the explanation and rationale for carrying the CCW badge, the finger-on-trigger instruction, the quick draw technique, or the magical spinning Glock maneuver. The entire video should be watched to appreciate it to the fullest.

Sadly, I'm banned from commenting on his channel.

Well that's 12:15 of my life I'll never get back... whatta boob.

All I could think of while watching this creep was Tony Montana.

"You wan cher money? Here's your money..." The CCW badge is a perfect accessory for this jackass...

This vato lives with his finger on the trigger. "Running? Why would I be running? I'm the the one with the gun! Das what I roll with..."

I'm surprised he got all the way through the video without checking his package.... probably the first time in his adult life that he went 12 minutes and 15 seconds without doing so...

Come to think of it. Not only have I never said "I've got a badge", nobody in the last twenty-something years has asked to see my badge. I've been carrying a 1911 off-duty in CALIFORNIA and nobody has said anything. Surely in that length of time someone must have noticed a bulge behind my right hip or my windbreaker blew open.

Go figure.

Regards.

Bob

A badge is nice.

Especially when the Governor or a purty lady Judge pins it on ya.

I don't recall ever tellin anyone,"I've got a badge!"

Most times it's, "I got a warrant..." ;):D

Even in the gun culture, morons run amuck. Just stand back out of their muzzle direction and thank God you are not one of them. If I'm not mistaken, the entire idea of CCW is to be discreet. (Unless the bling factor comes into play.....:()

Looking thru these posts it's interesting to see how many "badges" there are displayed next to the user names....

I guess I always come up with the opposing viewpoint, but when I lived in the big city where the police always shot first, and ask questions later, if I had ever gotten in a situation where I was holding off a bad guy and we both had guns, I sure would like to have something to flash at the cops when they showed up and before the shooting started for real. Details could always be hashed out later, ....

I agree with the majority on this.
I don't have one but have thought about it at times because This is the only real use or justification I can see for one... to save your a** after you have saved it for yourself. (also what if... some other do-good ccw holder shows up and thinks you are a bad guy and decides to be dudly doright?)

Perhaps CCW holders should have a distinct 'badge' that ID's them to other good guys as such - say a triangle or square like mentioned in NY then they could feel safe when the cops show up to take the report.

125JHP, if I saw a shooting in my front yard, and the shooter was wearing a black nylon jacket with POLICE on the back in big white letters, I would hold a gun on him while I was calling 911.

If he was wearing a black ball-cap that said FBI, I would hold a gun on him while I was calling 911.

Now, IF this jacket or cap was only available to people that really were police or FBI, then maybe I'd believe them. But since they are available just about everywhere, they mean nothing.

So if the shooter, in plain clothes, flashed his "Official Concealed Weapons Carrier" badge, I'd hold a gun on him while I called 911. Let the boys in the blue uniforms with the black and white cars figger it out.

And if YOU were the shooter, and I walked up with gun in hand, and you turned and pointed your gun at me, while holding your little CCW badge out, I'm still gonna shoot you. Anybody can buy one of those badges. You don't need a carry permit. All you need is 10 bucks or so. It means nothing.

The only person I would NOT have a gun pointed at, if he did a shooting in front of me, would have a badge pinned to the front of his uniform and be wearing a Sam Brown with 50 pounds of gear on it. Him, I'd give the benefit of the doubt.

I see your point Alpo, although chances are I won't be in your front yard, I may be in a 7-11 and after the smoke clears there may be a number of secondary bystanders rushing up or pointing at me assuming all kinds of things.

Then too, there will be cops arriving with guns drawn. hopefully by then I will still have my wits about me, not gone into shock over what just happened and have holstered the weapon at the right moment so as not to alarm anyone enough to think I need dealing with.

I was just considering if this type of fake-out device would buy a little breathing room at the critical moment immediately afterward, until minds calmed enough to have the situation reach the report stage with me intact, that's all I can see it good for. Maybe I'm wrong and it wouldn't work in the first place, who's to know?

When I grow up, I want to be just like that you tube hero.
I'm saving my money to buy a 24K badge with some diamonds and rubies in it.

The gentlemen in the video is just plain scary! And his says he has children? I hope the fruit doesn't fall far from the tree. Some people just shouldn't father children. He states he is from Florida. That gets my dander going, I am from Florida, he is from FLORI-DAH! All I can is WOW!

I find offense to those that say carrying one of these badges is like volunteer firefighters putting lights on their private vehicles! In Kentucky a light and siren is mandatory for responders who are responding to the station to drive the firetruck......ever try running multiple red lights without lights and siren, now to the badge thang, if your disabled like me, 11 back surgeries cant just jump down on ground maybe it helps, but your permit does the same thing, I carry a NRA permit case in my back pocket, it has two windows, I put my ccdw in one and my appointment from the Governor as a Ky Colonel on his staff. When I was attempted to be carjacked,I called the police and said "I m the guy pointing his .45 at the guy on the ground, I will have my permit in my non gun hand and I am disabled and cant get on the ground please make sure the responding units know" the two units showed up over the loudspeaker they asked me to holster my weapon which I did immediately situation over, no badge required. These badges are sold as a novelty you want to buy one to keep at the house, fine, but your not a mall rent a policeman, and your not a leo, however I asked a leo ad he didn't care one bit about those badges and said most officers would see them as an attempt to look self important, and in a shooting situation the way I used my ccdw permit was by the book.....just a thought!
