1911 Pro Series sub-compact

I've had mine since May of 2010. I shoot it every month and carry it quite regularly. The only thing I found was that certain hollowpoints don't like to feed in mine. Buy at least two boxes of whatever you plan on carrying and make sure it's reliable. The extra expense is worth it and the practice is too. If I ever see one for under 900 I would probably buy another one. I've only ever seen one around here and they are asking $1100.00.

I had one for about 8 weeks. Having a lot of issues with the slide hanging up after firing. If I push it a little it slides and is ready to fire. This happens not every shot but enough that its a problem. Shooting various ammo 230gr RN. Ay one have the same issue or can advise before I send back to SW
Thanks
Jim

Check the extractor for burrs and movement. Make sure the breech face isnot causing the base of the round to drag. It sounds like the base of the round is not moving fully into place.

Also, if this was a used gun, change the recoil spring.

No experience with the S&W 1911 3", but recently gave up on getting either a S&W M&P 9c or 9mm Shield due to limited availability and issues with the striker fired triggers. So, I found a new STI Spartan III 9mm in their compact - officer model - with a 3.24" barrel and very nice trigger. Awaiting a chance to get to the range for initial tryout and break-in shooting. Stand by. For what it is worth, the demos on YouTube of this model are very encouraging...and the good STI track record is established. That said, my S&W 1911 E series is not only good looking but operates flawlessly and I am a S&W fan. Regards, Ed

Oh, got one of these recently too, Ruger 1911 Commander. Great gun.

Hey Jack, where ya been? ;)

Howdy.... been poking around... no where special, just don't post as much. Hang out a lot on NorthEastShooters classified...:) but I check in here every couple of days... Looks like things are going well. I had to buy another gun safe.... if that tells ya anything... :) Life has been fast and furious.. not enough hours in the day...

and now, you make me want to buy a Ruger....:)

S&W 1911 3inch pro series

Got an itchin for one of these 3 inch 1911's :D. Anyone have one? Impressions?

I have one and I must say it's GREAT!!!!!!!!!! I know there are a lot of problems associated with subcompact 1911's. The trigger is the best of any factory gun I have ever shot, it has functioned perfect for 10 boxes of mixed ammo so far and it's accuracy is outstanding.
S&W has put a lot of time and thought into this gun, the extractor is over sized and the ejection port has been reworked. The recoil spring is stiff and a flat wire instead of a
round wire spring. Spring rate has been increased. The barrel has only 2 locking lugs instead of 3.
I just can't say enough good things about it. It works,:cool: BUY IT.

Had one and really wanted to like it. Accuracy was very impressive, but it would not feed hollow points even after a trip back to the factory. Hated the factory plastic grips and recoil springs last 300 rounds. Decided I had enough with my sub compact 1911 experiment. Now I stick with larger 1911(s)

I know the feeling. I currently own 19 1911 pistols after getting rid of every one of them with a less than 4.25" bbl. They just didn't measure up to the Commander and FS pistols, irrespective of what I paid for them.
