Which one? 22A or 2206

Finally got the pictures. 6" barrel, fixed sights, plastic grips, and I did get a manual and I checked out a couple of the youtube vids on disassembly.

I'd love to get the 2206, but I want a .38 snubbie next. On the lookout for a reasonably priced S&W, but would settle, for the time being, for a Taurus or Rossi, 'till I found the right 36.

If I can find some wood grips I'd probably put 'em on. Need to shoot it a bunch before I look for target sights.

Does your 422 have a vertical white stripe on the front sight? I have a pair of fixed sight 6 inch 622s and they both have it.

If you start messing around with adding a target rear sight, you will most likely find the front sight will not be compatible with it. When S&W was producing these, the adjustable rear sight models had 2 heights of pinned front sight to match the standard adjustable rear sight or the target "millet" rear sight. Parts for the pinned front sights or adjustable rear sights are near impossible to locate in any condition. If you are lucky you may find a complete slide assembly for sale with an adjustable rear sight, but do not assume that just swapping of the slide will still have your 422 shoot to the same point of aim. I found this out for myself the hard way. The production series of 422/622/2206 had 2 kinds of adjustable rear sights and 1 fixed, and if the front sight is not the type that pins in place you are kind of stuck working around that parameter. This platform is odd in many ways, yet I would not let mine go so quickly. I've also discovered that if it is not broken don't fix it until it is. Grab some extra magazines while they are still affordable and just enjoy what you have.

No vertical white stripe on the front sight. (But I have a jar of white and another jar of pink nail polish.)

Thanks for the hint on the sights.

I might just go for a set of target grips (Numrich has them listed as, "Nylon Thumbrest Grips " for about $13.00) and call it a day until I get some serious trigger time with it. I try not to muck about with things until I see how they shoot and whether I really need anything more.

All the comments and suggestions are much appreciated.

I currently have a 22-A1. It is the version with the bull barrel, and the giant grip. To hold the gun in your hand feels CHUNKY. It does not feel that way when I shoot it. Right out of the box accurate. Fun to shoot.
In the old days I bought a new 422. I could never do much with that gun at all! Kept it about 2 years and adios! I also have a Taurus 990 Tracker. Don't like the brand, but a good shooting gun .
NOW with the price of .22's I can shoot my .38 Special reloads cheaper! No brainer. Bob
