Thinking about buying a SIG P220 Match Elite (model 220R5-45-MSE). Wondering about accuracy at 25 yards from a bench rest.

Anyone have one of these pistols and can give me an idea what I could expect?

Thanks.

I have never shot one from a bench rest, but most P220s will shoot tighter groups than most production 1911s.

The 5" P220 Stainless Match Elite is one of my favorite P220 production configurations.

This one has had a bit of work and is now chambered in 10MM.

Do not fall into the marketing trap thinking that because the word MATCH is in the product name this firearm is any more accurate than any other production P220. Match is used for the 5" target sighted guns. They have the same fitting, actions and barrels as all other P220s.

You gain a longer sight radius and the adjustable sight (there were a few fixed sight 5" produced)

If you are looking for the 45ACP tack drivers from SIG, you have to look to the P220S. This is the P220 Sport, P220 Sport Stock and P220 X6

The P220S is made in the Mastershop in Germany. These have hand fitted slide, hand honed single action breaks and match barrels. These are a quantum leap above the production guns in terms of accuracy.

SIG does not hand hone the DA break on any of the DA/SA versions.

I have a 40 caliber P229 Elite Stainless and it will shoot a 10 round Dead President at 60 feet. What's a Dead President, pull out a dollar bill and look an the oval for the Presidential Portrait, that's a Dead President. BTW, I did this back in 2008 when I could still focus on handgun sights and couldn't do it today without using a handgun scope. Take that as a hint if your vision isn't correctable to 20-15 or better it really doesn't matter what your pistol is capable of because the limiting factor won't be the pistol it will how well you can see. You can also take it as a hint that Grumpy Old Men are that way for some very good reasons.

Thanks, guys, for your input. I owned a German P228 several years ago and it was a fine accurate handgun.

I've about decided on the standard 4.4" Elite (220R-45-SSE). Not looking for tack driver accuracy - just a gun that hits what I'm shooting at within 3 inches.
