Hey all, I was wondering if anybody here knows of some decent gun stores around Midland, TX. Preferably on the east side, because that would be closer to the rig. Also, if they have reloading supplies that would be a big plus.

The reasom I am asking is that one of the Company Reps on the rig is interested in buying a pistol for home defense and I would like to get him to handle different pistols and revolvers and see what he feels more comfortable with. And since he lives around Lubbock, he can legally buy one there or go back home and buy one local to his house.

The reloading component thing is for me, as I need to pick up some large rifle primers on the way home to save me a trip to Lafayette, LA after I get home.:D

Any help would be much appreciated.

T&P Truck and Trailer on Rankin Hwy. - sort of east side - has a big selection of guns & ammo. Some reloading stuff. Not cheap, but they have a lot to choose from.

Best prices are at Academy on Wadley (northwest side). Limited selection, but decent pricing. They also have some reloading supplies.

Thank you for that. I know exactly where T&P Truck and Trailer is, as the last location we were on was down the Rankin Highway around 7 miles.

If you happen to go thru Abilene, the Shootin' Shop has a good selection of new handguns and always a few used. As far as primers go prepare to pay $40 per 1000 in that area. pricey.

Thanks guys. I went by TMP yesterday and they have a good selection of pistols, but they will be moving starting October 1. From the way the guy was talking, it will take them around 3 weeks for the move before they will be open for business again and it sounds like they will be moving pretty close to Loop 250. I did pick up 4 boxes of large rifle BR2 primers, but they were right at $7 per flat. :( But it saves me a trip back to Lafayette.

D Brown, thanks for the recommendation of Walls Gun Store. Since TMP will be moving when I come back in 2 weeks, that will be a place to take my buddy Mike to check some pistols out.

joeintexas, is it right off I-20? The problem with trying to get them on the road, or even getting into a gun shop to check out their stock is the time I am traveling through Abilene. When going home, I'm generally passing through Abilene around 8 PM and figure that most gun shops will be closed. When coming to work, it's around 7 AM when I am passing through Abilene so it's basically the same situation.

Yeah, the guy at TMP did say something about that with the move. There will be an indoor range there and the building will be 35,000 square feet under roof.

I was trying to remember where it was they are moving to, but I'm not positive. He said it was up by Loop 250, close to the Pioneer Natural Resources building on that end of town. I see they have a business called Ally Outdoors there in that area that says it has a shooting range, so I am thinking that is who TMP is partnering with and moving to.

That was there address when I lived there, moved to Florida this summer so not sure if they have moved or not. Friendly shop but very pricey, especially on powder and primers. I think their hours are 9-6. Good luck. Owners name is Patrick.

Yeah, that's the one. I couldn't remember the name. It's on Spring Park Drive just east of N. Big Spring (TX 349). Opening very soon, I believe.

I stopped by a newish gun shop on Midkiff just south of Illinois Ave. yesterday. The name is Wild West Tactical. I was not impressed. They had a smallish selection of guns at pretty high prices and no reloading stuff. They do have some Military Surplus equipment and uniforms and survival foods, though.
