A few years ago, I purchased a then new Model 386 Night Guard. I really love this gun and use it both on the range and as a self defense weapon.

For those who might not be familiar with the 386 NG, it has a tritium front sight (aka "night-sight"). Even when I bought the gun, the sight was not as bright as other night-sights I have, and now its totally worn out and dark.

So, my first question would be does S&W still sell replacement tritium front sights for this gun? Second, is a replacement likely to be brighter than my original sight was (because to be honest, I would not pay for a replacement that wasn't better that the one it came with), or are these sights normally not as bright as other maker's?

If the answer to either question is "no" are their third-party replacements available that will fit this gun? Also, I was considering replacing the front night sight with a gold-dot front sight. What's the general thoughts on these?

Any comments or suggestions are welcome!

The factory sights for these were XS Sights.

-XS Sights #RV-0001N-4 - Standard Dot Front Sight (uses J-Frame application) Height is “.180”.

Trijicon also makes a front sight that would work. They list it as a J frame front sight, #SR14F

*XS also makes a Big Dot version that will work. Big Dot Tritium - S&W J Frame #RV-0001N-3. The Big Dot version may be too large for the rear sight notch though.
