CCI 22 Standard Velocity

I haven't regularly shot 22 pistols in competition since the late '80s or early '90s, but back then my semiautomatic of choice was the High Standard Supermatic. That vintage of CCI SV was stubbornly undependable in all of my target guns... I was fortunate enough to buy an early lot of RWS Target that was offered in case lot prices. It was as reliable as a freight train and I had to look long and hard to find something to replace it toward the end of my rather sketchy competition career. Through it all, I tried CCI Pistol Match as well as other types of CCI and never found any of it to be dependable in my guns... but they also didn't like Remington or Federal ammo of the day either. The white box Winchester that was available to clubs through the old DCM was the only thing I could really depend on in those days and then that was nearly impossible to get in a dependable fashion. Thus my 22 shooting ended not with a bang but with a whimper.

CCI SV is good stuff. So is CCI Blazer.

Remember during the Panic? We were buying anything we could get our hands on.

Winchester Xpert HV? Monstrously bad stuff. I ended up giving away about 750 rounds.

Remington Thunderbolts? Okay stuff, some fail to cycle due to being underpowered.

Federal Champion? Not bad, not bad at all. But I prefer CCI stuff.

My CZ shots 1/2 inch 50 yd groups (using Weaver T24) all day with CCI Std velocity. Expect an occasional flyer but for informal target shooting, they’re great.

I use Lapua Center X when I get more serious for score. More expensive brands get diminishing returns unless used in a serious rimfire target rifle.

My big mistake was buying a bunch of Mexican stuff from Brownell's because it was the only stuff available. It's mostly ok in revolvers, with only the occasional misfire. But it won't cycle a semi-auto if your life depended on it.

Remington Thunderbolts were always good stuff. I never ran into underpowered stuff.

CCI SV and sub sonic are the cleanest 22 ammo I've ever tried. Got "several" thousands of both.

Never had a problem with it in a 10/22, Ruger MK 3 or 4 pistol or a CMMG dedicated 22 AR upper.

Remington sub sonic has always fed well, but is the dirtiest 22 ammo I've found.

Shooting thru a suppressor, I swear 100 rounds of Remington is dirtier than a 1000 rounds of CCI.

Anybody remember ScoreMaster? I had bought a case of it a number of years ago. It actually functioned my Benelli quite well and was reasonably accurate. The only problem was the smell. The shooters around me threatened to ban me from the range if I kept using it.....:o

ScoreMaster was comparatively quite accurate for a modestly priced ammo, certainly the best of PMCs .22 LR offerings at the time.

Thanks for posting about this. CCI SV is my "go-to" ammo. I buy it by the case. Two anomalies: My Model 41 won't function with it - Eley is trouble free. My Model 17 suffers hard extraction with CCI SV, just like you did. It has never liked it, no matter what lot I've used. So I shoot SK standard in the 17 without issue. I'm not about to ream the charge holes like some folks have done. I just have accepted that CCI SV is a good, low cost ammo that works in most, but not all, guns.

Same kinda deal with my 1990 Model 41. CCI SV was the recc go-to ammo for the 41 on the M41 forum, but mine just never liked it.

Tried some SK made Wolf MT and it ran like a top. Worked well in all my 22's, so I invested in a couple of cases. Still running smooth years later, with the same ammo.

I'll see how the SK/Wolf performs in the Model 43C that is next on the purchase list. No clue about the Eley produced Wolf, but the SK made SV has proven the most trouble free in all my .22's.

CCI-SV works real well out of my 617. Never a problem or a miss-fire.

Bought a 500 round box of Armscor in .22 as the price was right and I have been using their 9 mm stuff for quite awhile with no problems. The .22 will not cycle in my MKII and am wondering if the waxy coating is the problem. Have not had any problems with any other type of ammo in that gun. I can't imagine wiping down every round of .22 before using it.

I stopped using cci sv as it leaves the gun extremely dirty and gritty. I switched to Federal Champion as it burns much much more cleaner with great accuracy. My wife uses it in her Ruger Mark4 Hunter as her new Victory PC spends most of it's time going back and forth to Smith because of major ftf and fte issues
