Engraved Double Action Smith's

My one and only engraved piece and it just happens to be a DA S&W; English scroll and gold lines done by Claus Willig, and scenes done by his father Emil Willig. This 4 screw K-38 Pre-Model 14 was completed by the Willigs for Kurt Jaeger in the late 1950’s.

How is the grip held on with no screws?!?

How is the grip held on with no screws?!?

First with a lateral cut piece across the butt with screws into the bottom of the grips. Then it appears that they also increased the angle of the frame cut where the back strap and front strap meets the bottom of the frame, and then cut the ivory grips to slide up into the angled frame cut to secure them at the top as pictured here.....

For comparison note the difference in the angle of the frame cut between the Willig engraved K-38 Pre-Model 14 and the standard production Pre-Model 27.....

Then when the grip cap is installed and tightened down it applies additional pressure to the bottom of the grips so that they stay snug against the straps and frame as pictured here.....

With the grip cap installed there is absolutely no movement of the grips at all.

Jim DeMunck Engraved 38/44

Here’s a .38/44 Outdoorsman with SN S123159 that Jim DeMunck of Rochester NY did back in 2010.

Ivory grips made from a set of Colt grips. He moved the S&W trademark from the right side of the frame to the left side so he could inlay and engrave that gold cougar there.

This gun may appear elsewhere on the forum. Or maybe not if the pictures were from Photo Bucket.

Throwing this thread to the top with a couple of photos of a P. Quigley engraved beauty.

Hoping that a few more engraved guns will be added to this thread.
Mr. Quigley has recently posted what I believe to be a few of your guns in a Facebook group. Caused quite a stir.

Regards,
Bruce

...A used and slightly abused pre-27 got the mechanics gone over.
Then new hand made grips. Polish, about full coverage engraving, a bit of 24k inlay and a new high gloss rust blue job.
Good to go..

Did you do all the work on this revolver?

Kevin

Ok, just stop it!
My eyes hurt, my like button finger has a callous, i can’t sleep at night.
I might becoming a little possessed.

Oh my goodness, what a collection of craftsmanship. Congratulations and thank you to all you stewards for sharing these wonderful examples.
I hope there is a chance that this thread could be added to the “Sticky” section so that in the years to come it will be available to all and not just those of us who were fortunate enough to click on this thread. This was an absolute feast for the eyes and a treat.
Jake

Here’s my one and only that fits here. I believe a jeweler in Springfield, MO did the work. This was carried with a another matching HD with the only difference being the other one wears ivories. This one shot a thief in the shoulder and convinced the officer to order a RM since the 38 didn’t even knock the guy down.

Engraved Russ Smith 629

Thought I would add my 629 to the pot. Picked this up several years ago. Custom engraved by Russ Smith for the John Jovino Co. in 1982. I have always been fascinated by this art form and the incredible patience and dedication it must take to complete something this beautiful. Really enjoyed seeing all the other pictures and would like to more examples in the future.

Great looking 629! Spectacular engraving and gold inlays throughout. The carved stocks add a nice touch.
