Walmart Ammo Part 2 (The Discount)

The clerk at the Walmart I stopped in said that the date for final sales was December 26th, as stated above.

Prices were pretty good for what was left.

Winchester white box 9mm was $5 a box or you can get the 124 gr NATO for $13.00 for 150 round box.

Picked up two boxes of .45 Federal Aluminum case for $7.00 each.

Sadly no .38 Special left on the shelf.

Went back to Wal-Mart today to see if any .38 left. Picked up two boxes of .38 Federal 158 lead round nose for $9 each and 100 round box of Federal .45 (brass case) for $17. Slim pickings now.

I went to another store today. No lucko bucko. They had a couple of thousand rounds of 40 S&W and a few hundred Tulammo 45ACP, and a few hundred Blazer aluminum 45ACP.

I thought about getting some of the 45ACP since it was a dime a round. I've always avoided steel cased for pistols and I don't much care for aluminum cased either. But I'm thinking I may go back for some of the aluminum cased 45ACP. Maybe.

I picked up three boxes of Federal Champion 9mm 115g aluminum cased ammo today. 200 rounds per box @ $17/box. $57 out the door for 600 rounds. Not great ammo, but fine for the range.

I bought a 100 rd box of Remngton .380jhp's for $17. A 20 rd box of Federal Syntech .45jhp's for $7.00 and a 20 rd box of Remington .38 +P Golden Sabres for $7.00 last night. The guy behind me must have had over a thousand dollars worth of stuff on the counter. I should have bought Federal .223 200 rds for $30.00.

I never go to Walmart for ammo because it's so hard to find someone to help you, but I was there last night so I thought I would check it out.

I ended up picking up two 550-round packs of Federal .22LR 36-gr hollow points for $19.97 each. That's a great deal comparable to discounted mail order. It was the last two they had. There were two 100-packs of Winchester white box 124-gr FMJ for $17 each which I would have bought, but the guy next to me wanted them so I wasn't going to be a hog.

Other than that, the case was pretty sparse. Some stuff was on clearance, but not everything.

Todays Wally World haul:

WWB .25 ACP - $10.50 a box

WWB .40 - $7.00 a box

WWB .45 ACP - $9.00 a box

WWB .357 Sig - $15 a box

WWB .44 Magnum (JSP) - $17 a box

Federal brass .45 ACP - $17 per 100 round box

Tulammo .223 - $2.50 a box

Seems to be going fast.

Just got back from my Wal-Mart in North West Austin. All handgun ammo was gone except 3 boxes of Winchester white in .357 Sig. So I bought 2 boxes for $9 each. Don't know why but couldn't come away empty. The yellow stickies were still up for everything and I missed a hell of a sale!

I did very well today too. :) Seems that the end is finally here. I took out the charge card and wiped them out of Winchester White Box .45 ACP and Remington .223 55 Gr FMJ. They were already out of 9mm except for self-defense stuff, but I'm getting away from 115 Gr anyway. I bought a few self-defense boxes along with their last box of .25 ACP. At 40%-50% off, I couldn't resist.

All that's left at this point is .40 S&W and a few odd boxes of self-defense rounds, but another load is going to be put out tomorrow afternoon, or so they said.

So you guys got me to drop into the Walmart in North Platte Nebraska today. First I went over my lunch hour but two other guys have been waiting for half an hour for a clerk so I jetted. Went back after my work day was done, purchased 250 rounds of 38 special,18.63 cents per round after tax. 158 grain LRN, Federal, brass casings. Cleaned them out. I don't buy Remington Core-Lokt so I don't know if $12.38 or something like that for a box of 20 is a good price but they had loads and loads of that in 308. Same price for 270, but all they had was 150 grains and my rifle is sighted in for 130 grain handloads.

Stopped by my local WM today (smaller store in a small town) and sure enough most of their handgun and MSR inventory was discounted "bigly," with the notable exception of self defense rounds and 22 (no one at any WM I have been to in Texas can tell me if 22 is going away or not).

Cleaned them out of UMC 125 JHP +P ($15/100) and Federal 44 Mag 240 JHP ($17/50). Most of the 9MM and 5.56/223 was already gone when I got there.

I hit the other 3 Wally's in my area today.
No joy.
Lots of 40 S&W, which I don't shoot, and lots of 380ACP, which I don't need because I have a lot already and don't shoot that much. :(
BUMMER!
Oh well at least I got some bargains....

Just went down to my local Walmart and they were wiped out. Clearance stickers were up but bare shelves. A couple boxes of 25 acp was all I saw.

Today’s haul:

4 more WWB .45 ACP at 9 a box.

The last two Federal Aluminum .40 FMJ for 5 bucks a box.

Winchester 147 JHP 9mm at 11 a box (last one)

Winchester 180 JHP .40 at 11 a box (last one)

Federal HST 9mm 150 at 7 bucks for the small box

Federal 135 JHP low recoil 9mm at 7 bucks for small box

They still had range packs (100 and 200 rd) of .40 and .45 but I’m trying not to be a hog. If its still there tomorrow I may snap it up.

This a fairly rural Wal Mart about 20 miles away. The one in my town is stripped clean.

Hit the last one within 25 miles of my house this morning.
Got ONE 20 round box of Tulammo .223 for $2.50 and that's all they had.
I swung back by the one that had the Tulammo and Blazer aluminum 45ACP the other day and it was all gone too.
So it is all over for my entire area. 5 Walmarts and every one has been picked clean.

Likewise, I couldn't resist going back for seconds. :D Today's haul consisted of some of my lesser stocked pistol calibers plus a few boxes of brass-cased AK ammo:

  • .380 ACP 95 Gr FMJ - 300 rounds
  • .38 Special 158 Gr RNL - 150 rounds - (last 3 boxes)
  • .357 Magnum 158 Gr JSP - 50 rounds (last box)
  • .357 Sig 125 Gr FMJ - 150 rounds (last 3 boxes)
  • .44 Magnum 240 Gr JHP - 100 rounds
  • 7.69x39 123 Gr FMJ - 80 rounds (last 4 boxes)
Still no 9mm ammo in sight except for self-defense rounds. Department manager says that this is it... no more incoming shipments expected. :( Nothing left in the back room. :(

Only thing I might go back for tomorrow is more .45 ACP and some 130 Gr jacketed .38 Special. I'm also debating buying some of that self-defense ammo, but even at 50% off, it's not exactly cheap. :p

Before it sold out UMC 130 grain FMJ 38 spl mega packs(250 ct) went down to $35 down from $59 which started at $68+.I've seen the UMC mega packs at $90 online. I picked up the last 3 boxes of the UMC and the last five boxes of Federal Champion 158 gr RN 38 spl, both at $9/each. Federal 38+P HST micro I got for $13. I'm done. No more sales after Dec 29th and what's left goes to state police.

When centerfire handgun ammo is priced under $2.50 per box of 50, I'll go look. That's what it costs me to reload except 357 and 44 magnum. I'm cheap. Now I'll buy that 1 gallon of milk for $1.30 all week long.
