I have a hankering for a semi-custom rifle built on a used action and fitted with a high quality barrel to shoot 5.56 match ammo.

Perhaps starting with a Winchester Model 70 or Remington 700 action.

Who does nice work on something like this.

Thank you in advance.

Why a custom?

I have a Remington 700 in 338wm. I tested over the counter ammo and found the Winchester super X 225gr ammo at 100 yds will put two bullets in the same hole benchrested. Standing up four rounds rapid fire hand held four different bullseyes non stop firing I’m one inch from each center x. I’m very surprised a new rifle could do this. It’s right out of the box.

My western auto revelation 30-06 bolt action 1972 will shoot nickle five shot groups to this day. With my reloads.

There was swedish rifles manufactured for s&w. My swedish military rifles are outstanding quality and accurate. I have a few in the hopper for custom builds next.

All my non scoped rifles I can’t shoot any better than 1 1/2” groups at 100 yds.

Do you plan on reloading? My old mossberg when it was new was so inaccurate. I put 750 rds thru it with some military fmj then reloaded for it to zero it in. I hammered this barrel.

After selling off most of my hunting rifles,
I have circled around.
So did I go Semi-Custom? Not exactly.
Lefty that I am, bought a Savage Avis 223.
Want to hit Varmints at 200-300 yards.
Ugly- yes! It’s a Savage! I have owned several, most are good shooters.
This one seems to be, only test fired a little so far.
So far like it just fine.
Actually, not crazy about the magazine.
Just took a picture with my iPad.
It looks sort of like this.
