I was able to go to the range yesterday to see if the issue with the Mauser was resolved by my alteration. I am happy to report the alteration worked! My Mauser fires as it should!
I also confirmed that both positions of the safety work properly. I did this by pulling the trigger for each of the two safe positions with a live round with the chamber and the rifle properly shouldered and safely aimed downrange.
I'm happy the solution was easier than originally thought! Here's to a lot of future range time with my Mauser!
