Cabelas visit

Do people still go to Cabelas?:confused:

I still go in from time to time, when they have any ammo, it's still regular priced... I buy some camping stuff there, pellets for my grille, ocasionally clothes... I have bought several guns there for good deals on black friday or average priced used guns (what i thought were rare-ish guns though), but mostly I bought ammo from there. Almost no ammo, so I rarely shop there now. I still stop in maybe once a month when I go to my office, but rarely anything I need in store. Maybe they'll have some 450 Bushmaster I can buy

I liked Cabelas until the Bass Pro buyout. On sale Herter’s ammo (S&B, then Winchester made) was competitive with mail order. Their Cabelas logo’d clothing was good quality. In store customer service was good. Now that they’re the red headed step child of Bass Pro, I don’t go any more.

IMO, in the end, the family sold out the city of Sidney, NE. Shame on them.

We shop the Wheeling store. A week or so back they had 9mm ammo they were VERY proud of. The store removed the ammo aisles now. Lots more import products too.
I do better at Midway.

We have (had) a LGS that had been in business since the 1930's. My Dad bought his deer guns there. I bought my first gun there and many more afterwards. They literally had EVERYTHING gun or shooting related. Two years ago the last generation of family members retired and they closed the store.

Cabelas was now the only horse to ride. I bought a lot of powder and primers there and the prices were competitive. I could go online, but the hazmat charge made the local Cabelas more cost effective.

I look forward to continuing my association with them as soon as they get SOMETHING back in stock.

I would go if the nearest one wasn't 200 miles away. And the nearest one is in CT so I couldn't buy ammo there if I wanted to.

I was a Visa Black Card cabelas person pre about five years ago. Was in their stores several times a month, and bought lots of stuff from them. Not sure when I was in a cabelas last, close to a year I guess, and have no need or desire to go and even look around.

I still am, but only because of the points I have accumulated. I am going to use them then get a different card sometime this year or next.

Problem is there really isn't anything I want in the stores. I will probably put them toward a hunt of some kind.

My husband was a huge fan of Cabelas, now days he would turn around and walk back out the door. We did a lot of our Christmas shopping there.
My closest store is Owatonna, MN, one of the largest ones. 1/3 of the interior is now boats. Not much hunting stuff anymore.

One thing I do like is the women's Natural Reflections clothing, jeans that fit me and have several sweaters that I really like.

I too have a bunch of Club Points, will just hang on and see what happens with ammo & gun prices and availability.

I’ve got some great deals at Cabela’s. A 19-3 nickel snub, a no-dash 14, a Colt New Service .38/40, a three-screw .357 Blackhawk, others I can’t think of.

My local one doesn’t gouge on ammo, either, when they have it.

The pickings are slim now, but it’ll get better.

If you don’t like Cabela’s that’s great!

I was a Cabela's Club card holder for almost 20 years, during which time I bought firearms and a lot of ammo and hunting supplies. Since their BPS takeover, however, I've been less than impressed with my local Cabela's. They've sent me email and flyer notifications of sales of items they didn't have on site; then when I showed up on the opening sale day looking for certain sale items, they were nowhere to be found. When I pointed out the missing item in their flyer, they'd claim the mother ship failed to send them those items...and sorry, but no rain checks. That was it for me.

Have found several good used guns over the years at various Texas Cabelas. Recently less and less - Bass Pro combined with pandemic panic? We’ll see...

Inevitable, when there is a buyout, the lesser of the two will drag the good one down to its level. Happened with Alaska Airlines when they bought Virgin America. Alaska brought Virgin down to it's level.

It didn't surprise me that the Cabela's clothing quality dropped down to BPS lesser quality for example.

What the sale has done to Cabela's is a shame. If it wasn't for my Cabela's points, I wouldn't even be a customer. I have been a customer since the 70's.

I have been a faithful customer since the early ‘70s also, and have spent a small fortune buying their great products over the years. If I did not have the club credit card with points, I would never be back in the store again. Bass Pro has destroyed a great company that Jim and Dick Cabelas built from nothing. Yes, it is a shame.
