I did a few searches and didn't find many results. I've got a laser cartridge in 9mm that has been great for my semi-autos, but I'm trying to improve with my J frames. There are a few options for these in 38 special, and the price to purchase 5 to fill a cylinder is about that of a few boxes of ammo. I can understand the cartridges being in the cylinder versus the barrel may lead to some inaccuracy and variation, but if anyone has had modest results I may spring for them.

I have one for my 9mm pistols. It works good. I hung a 3" red reflector on the side of a flower pot in the living room and shoot from my chair in the second bedroom we use as an office, about 40 feet. It does wonders for your trigger control. I use the cheapshot brand. When you hit the reflector is looks like a strobe light. You can set up a jungle walk in several rooms. Have the wife spot them around and you have to find them.
I have an itarget with laser cartridges in several calibers. It’s a fun toy and pretty useful at developing skills. It works best with TDA semis in that with each trigger pull, you get a laser activation. Works ok for revolvers, but like you said, you either have to buy a cylinder full or keep rotating the cylinder back.

I purchased one for both my 9mm and .45 1911 and love them. I got them for two of my sons to boot. They really do help with basic skill training. Mine were in the $30 range, over expensive ones are not needed. Good luck with what you chose, it will be worth your time and money

I have a G-Sight ELMS 9mm which is accurate and fun to use, with the free cellphone app. It is probably worth purchasing the version with the replaceable contact pads and extra parts, if you intend to use it a lot. I would give it maybe 4-1/2 stars. Five for the actual product, and 4 for the free android App. (I have not tried the optional apps you can purchase for $5 each.)
However I decided not to purchase the .38 spl version, after reading the reviews of the poor accuracy. The laser cartridge (or multiple cartridges) are inserted into the cylinder and do not align well with the bore of the barrel. Accuracy is nothing like the 9 mm or .45 version which seats inside the barrel and headspaces on the rim. For a better explanation, see related reviews on Amazon...

Cock your 38 revolver. No insert a #2 pencil. Aim at an outside wall corner. Squeeze trigger. Repeat! You will be drawing a line on either side of the corner, or you will hit the same spot ON the corner.
You can determine too much trigger, jerk and so on!
Also, learn to reload from loose ammo in the dark or with eyes closed. On this I was taught to sit behind a window (with gun & hands below the sill!). Watch people with your eyes and reload without anything but feel! The cylinder flutes are there to keep count with!
These are a few of the lessons the Columbus PD cadets where trained to stay alive in the 1950's-1970's.
