M&P 10mm

I don’t want to get anybody’s hopes up, but this pic has been going around another gun forum I frequent. I really hope it’s legit.

A couple years ago, I was interested in a Henry Big Boy lever action
rifle, but with a side loading gate. Henry made only 3 rifles with
side loading gates at that time. I called the factory and spoke with
a woman about the possibility of more models being offered with
side loading gates. She stated as far as she knew there were no
new models being offered this way and no plans for it in the future.
So lo and behold, a month later, several of the Henry models
including the Big Boy appear on the market with side loading
gates. This proves the factories
do not always tell the truth and anything can happen. I have owned
2 Glock 20s, a Gen2 and a Gen4, but have since sold all my Glocks
as I could never adapt to a grip made at the wrong angle and as
uncomfortable as gripping a 2X4. Now my only 10 mm is a 1911 5 inch.
It is a good gun for shooting, but it weighs 40 ounces unloaded. Not
something I am going to carry all day in my advanced years. An M&P
2.0 in 10mm would fill the void nicely. Seems to me that it would be
relatively simple to use the M&P 2.0 45 for a base to develop the 10mm
version.

Any context to go with the pic? It sort of looks like a tag/bag that would go with a cheap magazine holster, and I cannot help but wonder if that's exactly what it is, just something from a cheap bootleg holster or otherwise an official product made in a country where .40 S&W is called 10mm Short.

I don't want to dash your hopes and it would be really nice if it were true, but it's just not very compelling evidence that an M&P10mm is coming. I'd ask whatever "industry insider" who originally posted that pic to show something a little more convincing.

I have no reliable info to go with it, unfortunately. The person that posted it said the pic was sent to them by a friend who’s a S&W dealer here in the US. It’s supposedly a display stand send to the dealer by S&W. And that’s all the info they have at this point. I’m definitely trying not to get my hopes up, but if is legit, I’ll be beyond ecstatic.

I too would be quite pleased if Smith & Wesson were to at last offer an M&P10mm, although I no longer have a need for one myself, more options for 10mm Auto Pistols is good all around, and I'd be happy for everyone else who has continued waiting on one all this time.

Maybe I'm being overly pessimistic and perhaps even a touch bitter that only now that I've settled on an alternative do they finally decide it's time to make a 10mm M&P, not that I regret getting the USP45 Elite in the slightest as I wanted it anyway, merely that I would have bought one years ago if they hadn't dragged their feet about it for so darn long.

I imagine that if this indeed is true then Smith & Wesson is making an M&P10mm, then they ought to be announcing it by SHOT Show come January.

Tell your friend to give whatever dealer sent him that a whoopin' if it turns out to be false, you hear?! ;)

Someone at S&W must have jumped the gun. The URL has gone 404. For those of you that missed it S&W was showing a 10mm M&P with an optics cut. Available with 4 or 4.6 inch barrels, with or without a thumb safety. It will have a 15 round capacity, the same trigger as the Shield Plus and weigh about 29 ounces with the longer barrel.

Well, I'll be... It does exist.

Congratulations to anyone who was still waiting for this. It looks good.

Not sure I want to pick up a new caliber to feed. I do like the M&Ps. I have 9s and 40s. Is the magical 10 worth it? Something to think about though.

S&W M&P 10mm Auto

I got a chance to look at Glock Model 20 10mm yesterday. The
"Store" had just received it.

That Glock 20 is a brick. I noticed the magazine holds 15rds.
I'm sure it would be very reliable though. Price wise I didn't
think it was bad. Just not a Glock enthusiast.

Now today I learn Smith & Wesson is coming out with their
M&P in 10mm Auto Pistol! I would really like to see that
one, even though I like their Revolvers.

Thank you for the good News.

Now the waiting begins.

Waiting indeed...

Picture worth a 1000 words

Thank you for taking the time and posting a picture
of that S&W 10mm Auto.

I like that safety, I think that’s a good idea. I’d take
mine with the safety.

Wondering what the street price will be. Thank you again.

Depends, does a more powerful .40cal cartridge appeal to you? Would you have any use whatsoever for a cartridge capable of launching a 200gr projectile at 1200fps delivering up to 700ft-lbs of kinetic energy, even if it's strictly for personal amusement? Could you ever see yourself developing a need for a relatively lightweight yet powerful pistol packing energy on par with full-power .357 Magnum but with 3x the capacity of a standard 5-shot Revolver?

Personally, I wanted one because a powerful semiautomatic pistol appeals to me, and because my residential area is surrounded by woods where hardy predatory animals roam. Granted I haven't gone into the woods in years, nor do I plan on going into those woods, but the wild animals in those woods have been creeping into the suburbs at night, and we've heard them, found tracks/scat belonging to Hogs and even Black Bear in the yard, so the idea of having a powerful handgun to carry should we ever have to do something outside at night is comforting.
