I’ve had Farmers home and auto insurance nearly my entire life, and they have been great to work with and if I ever filed a claim, they paid off like a slot machine. I thought all insurance companies were pretty similar, but I recently learned that’s not true at all. My 23-year-old daughter has insurance with Allstate and I’ve been dealing with them lately because she was getting nowhere. Her 2010 black Honda Accord got in a hail storm and just going through the motions with Allstate was pretty painful. its' been many months with no resolution in sight. I found out that almost no body shops or dealer repair shops will work on Allstate claims around here. Not long after the hailstorm, a guy pulled into the side of her with a new Chevy Silverado and he had Progressive insurance. He admitted fault but dealing with Progressive was also a cluster mess. We got estimates from some reputable body shops, but Progressive was not interested in them at all, their own appraiser had to come out. It took many phone calls and months, and their appraiser finally came back with an amount that was about half of what the reputable body shops quoted us. My daughter took the money instead of fighting because she was worn out dealing with them, I was mad at her for not fighting but I was worn out too! About the same time, she was getting her oil changed and someone backed into her car and left a note and he was with State Farm Insurance. We took the car to their recommended body shop that was nearby us, and there was also an Enterprise rental car dealer in the same parking lot. They gave her a rental car and had her car repaired pretty quickly with no hassle at all. So to sum it up Farmers and State Farm are great and Progressive and Allstate,….stink.
