Anybody Have an Optical Comparator?

Hi There,

Cute video but the iPhone doesn't have the resolution required
for the measurements I need to make. If it was simply a question
of thread pitch, it would be fine but there is a lot more to it. The
tool and die maker wants the following information:

MAJOR DIAM
PITCH DIAM
MINOR DIAM
PITCH DIAM OVER WIRE
HELIX
PITCH
LEAD
THREAD DEPTH
THREAD FORM

Some of this information is redundant for a single lead thread
but the iPhone cannot make those type of measurements ex-
cept for thread pitch.

Cheers!

A lot of community colleges have equipment like that. I would check there.

I've had extensive experience with optical comparators. I managed the inspection lab when I worked for a supplier in the automotive industry.

Your measurements would be a cinch. If you could find an engineer in the auto industry they should have no problem getting your "government" job accomplished.

Now if you can just find someone in the industry.....

Maybe try finding The Society of Automotive Engineers on Facebook and ask this question there? Some kind soul might do you a favor.
