I received this 3.5” model 27 357 a couple weeks ago and have been chomping at the bit to fire it. Date range is 1960-1 based on others I’ve seen dated within a close range to the serial (S1996XX). This is my biggest purchase so far.

Finally got a chance to get on a mission and air out some powder.
Set up my target at 12 yards, no one around and a bit of snow around makes for a perfect backdrop for iron sights. Some recoil, but that is to expected with the minimal mass version of the 27. It was quick and easily adjusted to thought. I had no issues with the magna stocks, they feel better somehow to me than my target ones. They are both great.
I had to dial in the sights a little but what a joy it is to shoot. So smooth on both actions. Balanced and good weight. Flawless on ever cylinder, timing and gap was in spec before I went. Ran some other distances for any excuse to empty more shells. No disappointment here!
I love the top checking and the old script on the barrel. The RR is perfect.

By far my favorite pistol, definitely still in the honeymoon phase but she ain’t hard on the eyes either. 2lb 11.9oz with a full belly. Just gorgeous and powerful. Well worth it.
I await to go again.

That’s a BEAUT, DV0! Since you like shooting it with the Magna grips, you might like it even better with the addition of a Tyler T-grip. Thanks for sharing.

Were you firing full power loads? I imagine that would provide an impressive light show, especially at night.

I got my first 3.5" model 27-2 some years ago and liked it so well I now have four. All are the earlier models from around 1970 that have the std trigger and hammer and I have Magnas on all four. A large frame S&W that somehow seems a bit small with perfect balance in the hand. No Tylers for me, hate the look and they force the hand downward on the gun to make the line of the barrel higher in the hand. I limit the "light shows" by keeping my handloads a bit below factory loads.

I've had a hankering for one of these for awhile. I have an 8-3/8" 27-3 but have been wanting a 3.5" -2. Stumbled across one at a local gun shop a month or so back, didn't look like it had been shot much, but holster wear on both sides of the barrel, and if memory serves me correctly, non-original grips, with no box or any extras. They wanted $1600 for it which seemed a little steep to me. Maybe I should have grabbed it but i passed. The search goes on!

Wait, you got to bring a .357 on your honeymoon?
Luuuhckeee !
I wasn't even allowed to bring a surfboard on my honeymoon.

From my notes to compare your serial:
Model 27, .357 Magnum, Blue, Barrel 3.5"
Serial   S 209370    Shipped Oct, 1960

Honeymoon is over, I’m still smitten but now distracted by a couple others. I’ve since ordered a letter on this, still my go to but not my biggest purchase anymore. I’ll post the date for it when I receive it.
