I shared this four inch four screw 44 magnum last year because it was a birthday gun for me. It was shipped 14 days before I was born.
Not too long ago I bought a 6.5 inch four screw 44 Magnum because I did not have a four screw example in that barrel length. I sent away for a Historical Letter and thought it might have left the factory in late 1957.
The letter arrived yesterday and brought with it a couple of surprises. First, the revolver dates to 1958. Second, the revolver was shipped on the same day, on the same invoice, to the same company as the four inch 44.
It was a large order sent to Charles Greenblatt in New York City that included ten 44 Magnums, five of each barrel length. My understanding is Greenblatt was a very large S&W dealer at the time.
I was not trying to find another "birthday gun" with this second 44 Magnum but this one just fell into my lap. I had no idea this gun was shipped from the factory on the same day as my four inch. I bought it because of the superb condition.
There are a lot of wonderful stories regarding members guns on this forum and I enjoy them immensely. This story won't hold a candle to many of those but I still thought it was worth sharing.
Oh, if anyone might be interested, the serial numbers on these two guns are 2021 apart. The four inch has the lower serial number.
