Squib load in 44 mag and no explosion

I've done something stupid too, twice. Late Spring or early Summer of 1978. After work a co-worker and I went to the large local gunshot to shoot my M-29 after work. I had just loaded 50 rounds with my Lee Loader. Using 44 Special cases with 7 grs. of Unique topped by a Hornady 265 gr. FP. We shot a few rounds when one of them didn't go bang, more of a "poop". 44 Magnums don't go "poop"!!! I knew what the problem was immediately. Must have missed loading powder. I sheepishly walked in side and had one of the owners fix it. All he did was take a brass rod and pound out the bullet. I went back outside and it happened AGAIN!!! I was mortified!!! I got in my car and drove home in silence. Found a dowel and drove out the stuck bullet. It had only gone about an inch into the barrel I think and was easy to get it out. The next day I took all the remaining cartridges into work and weighed them all on a parts scale. All had powder in them. Since then I've always checked the powder level and never had another occurrence. That made me feel quite the idiot.
p.s. I always carry a 10" brass rod in my shooting box, just in case.

Some years ago shooting a match I was in the middle of a string and shooting fast with the 625 and Berry 185 gr. HBRN. In the middle of the string I thought I had a misfire so I kept on shooting to the end of the stage. After I unloaded the RO said that with his electronic hearing protection he had heard a pop but I was shooting so fast that he was unable to stop me. Whether or not that bullet had made it out of the barrel before the next shot is a mystery to me. If it stuck in the forcing cone the next round shot it out with no damage that I could detect.
