43C Chamber Finishing Reaming

I had a new 43C that had to go for warranty for some issues that were pretty glaring.

One of which was the cases binding on extraction.
I’m guessing they don’t address it.

Can the alloy cylinder be reamed or would removing the anodization be detrimental to long term use?

Here are the issues with the 43C.
My FFL (a friend) ordered it and S&W assured me they could correct the issues so I transferred it.

Off center front sight pin hole, front sight installed in bad hole, punch marks on barrel shroud

Gouged cylinder face. I’m worried this will erode with use and carry

Barrel “crown” was so rough it caught patches. Looks like whoever installed the barrel sleeve did a slam-bang job and buggered up the barrel’s drive lugs. They dinged the crown really well too. It’s a bad picture.

Man, that's just BAD, IMO.

I have a 43C, but I've never shot it. I guess I need to get it out & look at the thing.

Even the 43C “tested” at Guns.com had bad punch marks on the barrel shroud. The article is from 2017.

That picture of the muzzle gives us an idea of what the barrel installation/removal tool must look like. Multi lobed spud. Wonder if it's with/without a bore alignment spud?

All of that is par for the course these days, sadly. Every "supervisor" you speak with will repeat the same script: "That's not right, send it in and we will fix that". Weeks and months later your revolver returns, with the same defects, or new defects, or both. There's no pride of anything left in Springfield. And they realize most contemporary customers don't know the difference.

My state has lemon laws and I have multiple practicing attorneys in my family. I’ve already wasted several hours of my time on a $600 gun. Not going back twice.

Well it finally made it to the gunsmiths. That could put them on track to return it by the promised date.

At least the phone staff are decent for a phone center.

I’ll give them credit, four weeks to the date and it is waiting to be shipped. It’s always cool getting guns in the mail and now someone who was somewhat accountable scrutinized it.

They replaced pretty much everything but the frame to include:

- cylinder
- yoke
- barrel
- barrel shroud

When I asked them service rep if the tech (gunsmith?) did any work to the internals he said they spent some time working on the action.

Let’s see what gets dropped off!
