Mystery Stocks, What Are They?

No idea, but they're gorgeous. The inletting around the triggerguard and the recoil shield is amazing. Super crisp lines, smooth as glass finish, and the finger grooves shaped all the way to the back of the grip are first class. These are as nice or nicer than any Farrant, Stark, Hurst or Hogue grips I've seen. It's a shame they weren't checkered at least on the right side.

I agree. I may have to send them out to be checkered.

So where did you find them? Were they on a gun you bought or in some flea market?

A nice homage to West Coast makers but looks nothing like any I have seen. Nice catch

Not on a gun but I found them on a popular online flea market being sold by a pawn shop. I already asked if they came in on a gun and was told that they were in a box with a bunch of other stocks, mostly stock S&W stocks.

I was able to get them way down in price because a few of the sharp edges were chipped pretty bad which I cleaned up and got some fresh oil on.

So far the consensus has been that these are a "combination of Farrant style on the bottom and Roper/Sanderson target on top. Another mystery grip."

Here's a set of crazy Python grips. They're unmarked, but the consensus is that they were made by Steve Herrett. They also lack jig marks, but the inletting is nowhere near as crisp as yours. They do lack the blind escutcheon that yours has.

Farrant-ish with a full wrap speed loader top. They are old. The inside has about 50 years of grime and dust in the corners.
I’m calling them Batman’s since they look like bat wings. LOL

They do look a bit like Fuzzy's work. I also want to say Steve Herrett, but if he made them better call them stocks unless you want him to haunt you. "I pack my clothes in a damned grip!" is what I believe he used to say.

The inletting is very fine. Lots of small chisel marks where the tight corners were cleaned up by hand.
A much closer look.

Took the gun out last night to put some rounds down the barrel, the stocks are very comfortable with a two hand grip. Lots of pinky room for both hands.

Look possibly like a European maker called NILLs grips.
He made rounds at the NPSC and Camp Perry matches for a while. High end quality stuff.

Ill have to see if Nill made stocks with a plug

Found these pics on another forum from a Colt, but the style and lines are very similar. There was no mention of maker unfortunately.
