From my Police experience some people are hard on their equipment (i.e. rode hard and put away wet) and others wipe down their firearms often, even when it is not needed as an OCD thing.
As a cop the 36 was just a BUG (Back Up Gun) but you should do Drills to get the most out of it. Shooting from 3 to 15 yards and shooting with your weak too.
