65-3 3”

Wow! What a good find! I prefer adjustable sights, but I would make an exception in a New York minute if I found one of those!:D

I purchased a model 65 from a dealer who had bought a police deparments inventory. What a great shooter. I now use it to qualify at my LEOSA qualification each year. The 65 is the best K frame I have ever shot with. I am used to a J frame and shot a 3 inch one rather well, but this 65 is great.

About 3 years ago I started calling 3” K Frames “chicken wing guns” I can remember when the grocery store would almost pay you to take chicken wings. Same with 3” K Frames. No one wanted them. Now wings are more expensive than chicken breast and 3” K frames demand top dollar. Thankfully they seem to be coming down. During the Covid scare 3” 66’s were bringing 2K. Now they are $1500-1700. Hopefully they will get down to $1k-1200

As DEF3 said:
"As I said before, CT only allows 3 handgun purchases within 30 days. I maxed that out on May 15 so come on June 16th!"

I used to live in Virginia and I remember that the government limited me to buying ONE handgun in a 30 day period. I think that has since been repealed. Now that I live in Arkansas to be closer to family, I have bought a couple of handguns and was told that I can buy as many as I can afford as often as I want.

Yep, it kinda sucks and is BS in my opinion. The law was passed to help prevent gun violence, which makes no sense to me. It only takes one nut with one gun. Why did they choose a qty of 3 and not one? This all came to change after the Sandy Hook incident.

DEF3, where are you shopping? I picked up this model 13-3 from Hoffmans, in Newington. I got it for $765.68 OTD, no free ammo though. PS I feel your pain. I was in 3-gun jail until yesterday. If I buy another tomorrow, I'll be right back in until after the 17th. M13 3 3 inch LS.jpg

Ya, same here I live like 15 minutes away from Stafford and Steve’s. Steves is pretty cool hundreds of old wood and steal guns in there. Maybe only 5 plastic ones.

IIRC I have 2 65-1’s, 2 65-2’s, and one 65-3. All 3” guns. I have been at this a while. I cannot remember the exact prices but I DO remember having to give ALMOST $500 for one of the -2’s and it was a LOT more than I had ever given for one. It is a Mass. State PD marked gun and came with the retired detectives badge. The last time I saw it was the night I carried it to the theater for poops and giggles… to see “The Departed” when it first came out.

I carried the -3 for a long time, but then I bought one of the early PC 3” 66’s that was comp’d and started carrying it.

Congratulations if you got it. 3” K frames are the Porsche 911’s of Smith revolvers IMO.

That sounds good. I'll be excited to check Steve's out. I will be heading there tomorrow if the pending thunderstorm doesn't put a damper on things.

Cool, he’s open Thursday thru Saturday. Like 11-4 pm. Small shop, lot of old colts just came in also. Lots of old levers and shotguns.

The only thing I don't care for is that stainless front sight. It really disappears in bright light, yet, many carry them that way. I always thought a 3" K would be what I'd carry if the states ever allowed us to. By the time Illinois finally did, I'd gotten pretty old and sadly, my full size guns all seemed too heavy for daily carry. Oh, I could and do sometimes, but I usually opt for a small frame revolver. Nothing like a smooth K for da though.
