I ran across this one yesterday at Cabelas. They had apparently just got it in. Good bit of blue wear, a little pitting on the cylinder with a good bit of pitting under the grips. The inside is good and the action is slick and tight. As you can see the grips are not original but are nice non-relieved targets that are serial numbered (160787). Gun is s/n S135656 and the holster in the picture came along with it. If you happen to have an N frame that matches the grip serial number let me know.

They had just got this one in and were looking it over with their Smith & Wesson book out on the desk. I think someone ordered it in and then refused it on inspection. The grip frame under the grips is very rough/pitted but the grips cover it pretty well. The grips are in nice shape and I figured worth as much as the gun considering condition. They had not put a price on it so I asked how much? The manager was there and said we can do $450....... I said I could do that too.

I called about that one last Saturday and they told me it was sold, I saw it pop back up yesterday and figured it was in error. Maybe I should have called again!
 
I just called on that one today and was told that it sold a month ago. I was trying to find out if the grips were diamond targets or cokes. I was hoping they were cokes, but knew it would probably be gone already. Still a fantastic buy at $450.
 
This^^^^^^^. They have a guy walking all of the major shows here in Oklahoma. They are too cheap to pay a decent price for anything. I asked him once what he was interested in and he said "everything if you will knock off 40%!" I said "Why? So you can mark it up 80%?" He doesn't talk to me anymore and I'm fine with that.

Back before Bass Pro got ahold of them, Cabellas was a great place to do some "Horse trading," now they just want to break it off in your "donkey." At least that's what I've seen in the very few I've been to. Some of you seem to get great deals at your local stores. Wish I could say the same of mine.

Why are the grips not period correct?
 
Before Bass Pro took over, most of them had a “Gun Library” that had vintage guns in it. They used to buy collections. Sellers probably thought they could do better at the Cabalas Gun Library than the local pawnshop. I’ve bought from them a couple of times many years ago. Like was said earlier, one thing that I liked is if you found a gun in a library across the country that interested you, they would send it to your local library for free. Worked well for those that must touch before they buy.

When I am selling for myself or others, I had three different places to recommend locally.

One place always really great with Military Surplus but did not want Glocks and such. Another was great for classic handguns and rifles. Of course, in Idaho you could run an ad in the newspaper. You think it's worth $2000 but the best offer from a shop is $800 - $1000. Run the ad $2000/o.b.o. and that gives you a reality check.

Of course if I was to sell a S&W I would do it here.

I worked in the firearms department at Cabelas for several years. Yes, there was a lot of horse trading going on in the Gun Library. You could find decent firearms and buy at a reasonable price. Since Bass Pro bought Cabelas you might as well buy new because the prices in the Gun Library are usually more than new.
