I took a trip today to a LGS to browse their revolvers and found a 67 no-dash that caught my eye. I've learned enough here on the forum and know what to look at when considering a used revolver. 4" barrel with target sights, Square butt with what seem to be original magna stocks, S/N 5K752?? (1973?) on butt and crane, "S" stamp in the crane as well. The finish was very good with no scratches and only one small rust spot on the trigger guard. The action was smooth, trigger pull the usual great S&W.
So here are my questions:
What does a "V" stamped into the rear face of the cylinder mean? That's a new one to me.
What would be a fair price? They were asking $600 which seems high to me. In fact the others they had, a 10-8 ($550) up to a 686 PC ($1100) all seemed high,
I had second thoughts so left empty handed.
Thanks for your input!

If it has the Stainless rear site it makes it a tad bit more collectable,
Basicly a SS version of the Model 15-3 ( I recently purchased a high condition 15-3 from a local shop for $459 otd).
The V stamp (sometimes an S iirc) identified that it was Stainless steel not carbon steel in the raw so it wouldn't get mixed up at the factory.

IIRC it did not have the SS rear sight. After seeing on line what others have sold for the $600 seems reasonable. It would seem to be a good companion to my 3" Model 36 ND.
Thanks for the replies.

My model 67 no dash was from the first run . Stainless sights were hard to pick up . Collectors want it .

I'm now on my second. Bought the first when the model was brand new. It had the stainless sights, which I removed for a blued set, simply because they were easier to see. Did a Lee's Red Ramp on the front sight, and made a trigger stop by drilling and tapping the trigger guard. Slicked the action, shot in our old Bullseye league. Finally sold it away to a buddy.
Found a NIB example at a Gunshow, two years ago, for $800, and bought it. The trigger was scary light, easily remedied. Tyler T-grip and action job, it's a keeper. It's an early one again, with stainless sights. Oddly, a buddy was issued a stainless sight 67, as a mill guard. He bought it.

Here's mine. Unaltered, 67 no dash. $695 shipped off this Forum. It's a 4 digit 5K. Big Larry

Wondering if the gas ring is on the yoke or the cylinder?
Guessing yours is 1973 and the gas ring is on the cylinder.

Just picked up a 1975ish serial 6K9x,xxx Model 15-3 and it's on the yoke.

I paid $475 for mine around 15 years ago. Be glad it wasn't higher. My wife's favorite! Bob
