Does anyone recognize this case? Know its purpose? I'd say it's just big enough to be a range box, if that's what it was.

Shotshells would make sense, and it would work well for that, but trap shooting is not the first thing I'd think of being that it's Smith & Wesson.

I have one of those, or at least very similar. I've had it for years and have no idea what it was for! Hopefully we get a good answer.

How about that. This came in with some old ammo in it. I'm no S&W expert, but I've never seen anything like it. I was guessing it was a case for one of their big revolvers. I was thinking something along the lines of the orange Survival Kit except different.

What do you use yours for?

I've got one that was given to me by Chuck Cheshire, when Cheshire & Perez were the California distributors for S&W. It was made to carry four boxes of 12 gauge shotgun shells, back when S&W sold shotguns in the 1970's. Chuck was an avid trap shooter and he used to save his blue Remington hulls for me.

Hope this helps.

I had one from back in the Seventies or early eighties. IIRC they came as a premium with four boxes of then available. The only downside was the hinges were moulded in and tended to break. If they had come with the later, grey hinges like the pistol cases they went to later they’d be great.

These were made by W. R Grace in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A good friend of mine was a machine operator and gave me one in 1969 or 1970. Was to carry 4 boxes of shotgun shell.

I wonder if they came w/ the S&W shotgun shells inside? I'm so old I can remember their nickle heads and I believe, blue colored, hulls?

I'll have to look now to see if I still have a box stashed away?

I never saw their blue plastic box, however.

I had a box of 12 gauge S&W shotgun shells, but have no idea what I did with them. A local S&W dealer told me he had to order a truck load of shells to get one Model 29 in the early 70’s. He sold hundreds of full cases for $39.95 during dove season.

Originally made by Alcan, I think S&W and Fiocchi bought out them out in 1972.
