The 3 1/2" and 5" barrels were reintroduced as 27-5 in 1991. Morado wood target grips. Production run of 1500. I don't know if that's the total for both barrel lengths or if there were 1500 of each. Anybody know?

Found these with a 5 inch nickel 27-2. So, I bought them all (my wallet says ouch).

I know they aren't P&R, but still nice guns. Anyone else have these?

Beautiful guns…..ALL! I am not an expert in wood types. Are you sure the grips are made from Morado wood? I would have guessed Goncalo Alves. Thanks for sharing.

I'm no wood expert, either. I took that from the 5th edition of SCSW.

Thank you for the comments.

One of the dumbest moves Smith ever made was discontinuing the 8 3/8 inch revovlers. It could not have been from lack of sales. Probably they wanted to build only the most popular barrel lengths.

I seriously doubt they were selling well at all. I don't know a soul with an 8 3/8 anything.

I have a few including a 686 no dash. A friend of mine said he wondered why on earth I bought it until he saw the groups it produced.

IIRC, this was 10 shots, around 20 yards, offhand using SWC's.

Even as late as 1991 S&W still knew how to built a quality revolver and yours are beautiful. What they're churning out today can't compare.
