If I need to post this somewhere else please let me know.

I'm a long time member but have been absent for a while.
And I have never sold a gun except face to face.
A friend sold me a few guns when he got older knowing I would enjoy them. I did sell a couple to other friends but a friend asked me to buy this model 19 Texas Ranger with a matching serial numbered knife from him and sell it to him when he got the money. That was 6-7 years ago now.

I don't really want it and could use the money to get something I want.

I don't know if I should list it on GB or post it here. If here what is the process. I would be afraid to send someone a bunch of money expecting to have them send me a gun. How do you keep from getting ripped off? Is there an escrow account or something? I'm not sure how Gun Broker works either.

Also, I know what I think it is worth but if you could give me your opinion on value I would appreciate it. I can get more photos later, it is in a wooden presentation case.

Posting it here is both free and easy. Read the rules and post it just like a thread.
If you're the seller, your risk is limited. Decide what type payment you are comfortable with and make that a requirement.
Postal money orders are no risk, certified funds are limited risk, personal checks with a specified waiting period to clear. I'm not up on electronic forms of payment other than that Paypal doesn't want firearms purchases.
You can also agree to only work with established members.
I would recommend that you get estimates on shipping rates beforehand so that you can include them with the listing.

I've bought and sold guns here, and there are similar threads to yours occasionally posted regarding how to feel safe during a transaction.

For the buyer, it is reassuring if the seller is a long time member.

Asking for a pic of the gun posed in a certain way — e.g. with a toothbrush — can assure one that the seller indeed actually has the gun. Asking for a phone number to discuss, and having a conversation with the seller can reassure as well.

For the seller, just hold the gun until payment is received (although some of us longer term members, in dealing with one another, don't feel the need to do this.)

Re the value of your set, if looking for reference points, I'd do an internet search and see what turns up.

The gun and knife look nice. Good luck to you with your sale.

Everything above is good advice. Especially knowing what an FFL will charge to send it to another FFL. I’ve sold a dozen guns here and currently have one posted. I’ve never had any problems at all. I’ve even excepted a few personal checks and sent the gun before they cleared. Anyone who’s been here a few years is probably trustworthy. As a general rule it will probably cost you $75 to ship it. Long guns could be more. Good luck with it.

I've both bought and sold more than a few over the years . Also have sold mags , barrels and other stuff . I've bought from members with the bare amount of posts to be able to sell and sold to people with very few posts . I can say with no hesitation , I have NEVER had a bit of trouble . It's up to you , but if you follow Onomea's advice , you won't have a problem . I'd be willing to bet if you post a fair price , you'll sell it . And you won't have to pay all those fees and have to worry about the buyer .

What you have is a Texas Ranger Commemorative set from 1973. It includes the very nice Model 19-3 with special features and the matching TR bowie knife/sheath, in a wooden presentation case. Many Forum members, myself included, believe that this was one of the finest commemorative sets that S&W ever manufactured. Only 10,000 TRs were manufactured, and 8,000 of those are revolver/knife sets like yours. Value of these sets has been climbing over the past few years, and I would think that $1100-$1200 is a fair price these days. If I were you, I would first offer it here on the S&W Forum (Guns for Sale) where you will find a reputable buyer.

I have never had a problem with a gun purchase on this forum. Admittedly I have only bought 4 or 5 guns here, but all transactions went smoothly

Good information here from the guys. The Texas Ranger Commemoratives are all over the place; if the gun has been shot it would lower the value, although that Model 19 is very cool! I've seen them from as low as $800 to over $2100. I have one of the sets, and have it valued for insurance purposes at $1500.00. $1200 would probably buy it if I were in the mood to sell. Probably could get more in Texas!
